CHAPTER 94
Clara’s POV
I stared at the note for what felt like forever, reading the address over and over again.
My hands were shaking slightly as I folded the paper back up. This was crazy. This was stupid. This could destroy everything.
But I was so tired of being told what to do.
I grabbed a light jacket and headed for the door. If I was going to do this, I needed to do it now before I lost my nerve.
The walk to the neighboring pack’s territory took about thirty minutes. I stuck to the back roads and avoided the main paths where I might run into other pack members.
The closer I got to the border, the more nervous I became. I was about to trespass on another pack’s land without permission. If their patrol caught me, they might attack first and ask questions later.
But I kept walking anyway.
When I reached the border, I paused for a moment. Once I crossed this line, there would be no taking it back. No pretending this had never happened.
I took a deep breath and stepped across.
The address Killian had written led me to a small cabin about a mile into the neighboring territory. It looked like the kind of place visiting Alphas might stay when conducting business.
I approached carefully, looking around for any sign of patrol members or guards. But the area seemed empty.
I was just starting to wonder if I had come to the wrong place when the cabin door opened.
Killian stepped out, leaning against the doorframe with that same smug smile I remembered from the night before.
“You came,” he said, sounding pleased but not surprised.
“How did you know I was here?” I asked, staying where I was instead of moving closer.
“I could smell you the moment you crossed the border,” he replied. “My wolf has been on alert since yesterday, waiting for your scent.”
“Why were you so sure I would come?”
Killian’s smile widened. “Because you’re not the type of woman who likes being told what she can and
can’t do.”
He was right, but I wasn’t about to admit that to him.

Halmost didn’t come,” I said.
“But you did,” he pointed out. “That’s what matters.”

He pushed away from the doorframe and started walking toward me I instinctively took a step back.
“What do you want, Killian?” I asked.
“Right now? I want you to stop acting like you’re afraid of me and come inside.”
“I’m not afraid of you.”
“Then prove it.”
Before I could respond, he moved faster than I expected. One moment he was several feet away, the next he was right in front of me, his hands reaching out to pull me closer.
“Forget about why you’re here,” he said, his voice dropping to that low, seductive tone I remembered. “We have more important business to worry about.”
“What kind of business?” I asked, though I was already getting distracted by his proximity.
“The kind that’s been driving us both crazy since the moment we met.”
I opened my mouth to argue, to tell him that wasn’t why I was here. But before I could get the words out, he bent down and threw me over his shoulder.
“Put me down!” I demanded, pounding on his back just like I had with Darius the day before.
But Killian’s grip was different. His arm locked around my thighs in a way that made it almost impossible
for me to move. No matter how much I struggled, I couldn’t break free.
“Stop fighting,” he said calmly, carrying me toward the cabin. “You’ll only tire yourself out.”
“I said put me down!”
“And I said stop fighting.”
He carried me inside the cabin and kicked the door closed behind us. The interior was simple but comfortable, with a large bed dominating the main room.
Killian finally set me down, but before I could move away from him, he backed me up against the closed
door.
“Now,” he said, placing his hands on either side of my head. “Where were we?”
“We weren’t anywhere,” I said, trying to sound stronger than I felt. “I came here to talk, not to….
“Not to what?” he asked, moving closer.
“Not to do whatever you think we’re going to do.”
Killian laughed softly. “And what do I think we’re going to do?”

don’t know, but I’m not interested.”
“Liar,” he said simply.
“I’m not lying.”

“Your pulse is racing,” he observed, letting one finger trace along my neck. “Your breathing is shallow. Your pupils are dilated.”
I tried to push him away, but he caught my hands easily.
“Your body is telling me a very different story than your mouth,” he continued.
“My body doesn’t know what it wants.”
“Doesn’t it?” Killian asked. “I think your body knows exactly what it wants. I think you’re just scared to admit it.”
“I’m not scared of anything.”
“No?” he challenged. “Then why are you trembling?”
I hadn’t realized I was trembling until he pointed it out. But now I could feel the slight shake in my hands, the way my legs felt unsteady.
“That’s not fear,” I said,
“What is it then?”
I didn’t answer, because I couldn’t. Because the truth was too complicated and too dangerous to say out loud.
