CHAPTER 103

Clara’s POV

I slipped through the main doors as quietly as I could, my bare feet silent against the cold marble floor. The packhouse was quieter than usual, most pack members busy with their evening routines. Perfect. I could make it to my room without anyone seeing me, without anyone asking questions I wasn’t ready to answer.

The scent of another man still clung to my skin like a guilty secret. Killian’s scent. I needed a shower, needed to wash away the evidence of what I’d done before anyone noticed.

But as I crept through the common area, heading for the stairs, a voice cut through the

silence like a blade.

Clara.

I froze. My blood turned to ice in my veins as I slowly turned toward the sound.

Darius sat in the shadows of the corner, perfectly still, like he’d been carved from stone. How long had he been there? How long had he been waiting?

I stood frozen at the entrance, my heart hammering against my ribs as I watched Darius rise from his chair in the shadows. His face was stone, but his eyes burned with something that made my stomach twist.

He knew.

The silence stretched between us, thick and suffocating. I could feel his gaze stripping away every lie, every excuse I might have crafted. The weight of what I’d done crashed over me like a wave, and for a moment, I forgot how to breathe.

I had to choose. The thought had been spinning in my head for weeks now, eating at me like poison. Killian or Darius. The dark seducer who made me feel alive in ways I didn’t understand, or the warlord who had saved me when I was nothing but a broken, bleeding

mess.

Both men wanted me. Both men claimed me. But I couldn’t have both, could I?

The guilt had been my constant companion these past few days. Every time Darius looked at me, every time he touched me, I felt like I was drowning in my own betrayal. He had given me everything. Protection. Power. A reason to keep breathing when I wanted to die.

And how had I repaid him? By sneaking off to another man’s bed.

But KillianGod, what he did to me. The way he made me feel. Like I was more than just a

rejected mate. Like I was a goddess worth worshipping. His touch was fire and ice, pain and pleasure, everything I craved and everything I was afraid of.

I needed to make a choice. I had to.

Clara.

His voice cut through my spiraling thoughts like a blade. I jerked, my body going rigid as I met his eyes. They were tired. So tired. Dark circles shadowed his face, and his usually perfect posture sagged with exhaustion.

How long had he been sitting there? How long had he been waiting for me to come home?

Darius, I-

Sit down.

The command was soft, but it carried the weight of his authority. I wanted to run. I wanted to disappear. Instead, I found myself moving forward, my legs shaky beneath me.

I perched on the edge of the couch across from him, my hands clenched in my lap. The air between us crackled with tension, and I could feel his eyes studying me. Reading me.

Judging me.

He leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepled under his chin. For a long moment, he just watched me. Then, without warning, he called out a name.

Sophia.

Footsteps echoed in the hallway, and within seconds, a woman appeared in the doorway. She was middleaged, welldressed, with kind eyes and graying hair pulled back in a neat bun. I recognized her as one of the pack’s seamstresses.

Alpha,” she said, dipping her head in respect.

I need four dresses made for Clara,Darius said, his voice flat and businesslike. Formal. Elegant. Something appropriate for an alpha’s meeting.”

My heart skipped. Four dresses?

He ignored me completely, continuing to address Sophia. Different styles. Different colors. I want options. Have them ready by tomorrow evening.

Of course, Alpha. I’ll need to take measurements-

Do it now.

Without another word, Darius stood and headed for the door. Panic flared in my chest, and I

shot to my feet.

Darius, wait. What are the dresses for?

He didn’t stop. Didn’t even slow down.

Darius!I called out, my voice sharper now. “What are the dresses for?

He halted at the doorway, his back still to me. The silence stretched taut between us, and I could feel Sophia’s curious gaze flicking between us.

Do you deserve an answer?he asked quietly.

The words hit me like a slap. I staggered back, my mouth opening and closing like a fish gasping for air.

What do you mean?

He turned then, just enough that I could see his profile. His jaw was tight, his eyes cold as

winter steel.

You know exactly what I mean.

My throat felt raw, like I’d been screaming for hours. Darius, please. I can explain-

There’s an alpha’s meeting,he said, cutting me off. His voice was empty, devoid of the warmth I’d grown used to. I need a plus one. Since you’re bound to me, you’ll do.
