CHAPTER 109

Alpha Lucien’s POV

Ronan’s voice boomed across the ballroom, immediately grabbing my attention.

I turned from my conversation with the Northern Pack representatives, my eyes scanning the crowd until I spotted the source of the commotion. Ronan was striding toward Darius with his usual confident swagger, Killian beside him looking as sharp and dangerous as ever.

But it was the woman at Darius’s side that made me freeze.

Even from across the room, there was something about her that caught my eye. The way she carried herself. The quiet confidence in her posture. The way she seemed to radiate a subtle but unmistakable power.

I moved closer, weaving through the crowd as the reunion unfolded.

Ronan,Darius replied smoothly. Killian. Good to see you both.

It’s been what, six months since the last council meeting?Ronan asked, clasping Darius’s hand in a firm shake. You’ve been keeping yourself busy, I hear.

Business has been good,Darius replied. New territories, fresh alliances. The usual.

And clearly some personal developments as well,” Killian said, his eyes moving to Clara with obvious familiarity. Clara, you look absolutely radiant tonight.

I frowned. Killian knew her? How was that possible?

Thank you, Killian,Clara replied with a smile that seemed genuine. “You clean up well yourself.

Ronan chuckled. I have to admit, Darius, when I heard you’d found your mate, I thought someone was pulling my leg. You’ve always been so focused on business.

So they all knew each other already. This was more than a simple introduction. There was history here, connections I wasn’t aware of.

I found myself moving closer, drawn by something I couldn’t quite name. The conversation continued around me, but my focus was entirely on Clara. There was something familiar about her, something that tugged at memories I couldn’t quite place.

Lucien.Darius noticed my approach and nodded in greeting. Perfect timing. I was hoping to introduce you to Clara.

I stepped into their circle, and suddenly I was close enough to really see her. Close enough to

feel the power that radiated from her like heat from a flame.

My world tilted.

Clara,Darius was saying, this is Alpha Lucien Calhoun, one of the most respected leaders in the region and heir to the Red Moon bloodline.

She turned to face me fully, and I felt like I’d been struck by lightning. Her eyes were warm brown with flecks of gold, intelligent and assessing. Her scent hit me a moment later, and I had to fight to keep my expression neutral.

Jasmine and vanilla and something else. Something that called to the deepest part of my

wolf.

Alpha Lucien, she said, extending her hand. It’s an honor.

I took her hand, and the moment our skin touched, recognition slammed into me like a freight train. This wasn’t just any woman. This wasn’t just Darius’s mate.

This was Red Moon bloodline.

Pure, undiluted Red Moon bloodline.

The power radiating from her was unmistakable once I knew what I was looking for. It felt like coming home and meeting a stranger all at once. It felt like finding something I’d been searching for my entire life without knowing I was looking.

The honor is mine,” I managed to say, though my voice sounded strange to my own ears.

How was this possible? The Red Moon bloodline was almost extinct. I was supposed to be the last pure heir. My family had spent generations tracking down every possible remaining member, and we’d found nothing.

Yet here she stood, radiating the kind of power that only came from the purest bloodlines. The kind of power that called to mine like a magnet to steel.

Lucien?Ronan’s voice seemed to come from very far away. You alright there?

I realized I was still holding Clara’s hand, still staring at her like she was some kind of apparition. Worse, I was completely ignoring the conversation happening around me.

I’m fine,” I said quickly, releasing her hand and stepping back. Sorry, I was just thinking about something.

But I wasn’t fine. My mind was racing, trying to process what I’d just discovered. Trying to figure out how Darius had found her, where she’d come from, why her existence had been hidden from my family’s extensive network.

And how are you finding pack life?another alpha asked as he joined our group. I recognized him as Alpha Marcus from the Eastern Territories, always eager to gather information. It must be quite an adjustment.

Clara’s smile remained perfectly polite. It’s been wonderful. Darius has made the transition very smooth.

Where did you come from originally?Marcus pressed, his curiosity obvious.

A smaller pack,Clara replied smoothly, not offering specifics. Nothing as impressive as

what Darius has built.

I noticed how expertly she deflected the question without actually lying. Interesting.

Clara’s smile was perfectly polite, but I saw steel flash in her eyes. Darius has been nothing but generous and protective. I couldn’t ask for a better partner.

The way she said partnerrather than matewas interesting. Almost like she was choosing her words very carefully.

Protective is certainly one word for it,Killian said with amusement. Darius has quite the reputation for beingpossessive of what’s his.

As any good mate should be,” Darius replied smoothly, his hand moving to Clara’s waist in a gesture that was clearly meant to reinforce his claim.

I watched the interaction with growing fascination. There were undercurrents here that I was only beginning to understand. The way Clara leaned slightly into Darius’s touch suggested genuine affection, but there was something else. Something that felt almost like performance.

Speaking of possessive,” Ronan said with a laugh, you should have seen Killian earlier. He was practically growling at any alpha who looked twice at the omega he’s been courting.

I was not growling,” Killian protested, but his grin suggested he wasn’t entirely opposed to the characterization.

The conversation continued, flowing into safer topics of pack politics and business ventures. But I found myself unable to focus on anything other than Clara.
