CHAPTER 113
Alpha Jaden’s POV
While the Regional Alpha Council was gathering hundreds of miles away, I was pacing the sterile hallway of the pack’s medical center, my hands clenched into fists at my sides. The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, casting harsh shadows that matched my mood perfectly.
I should have been at that meeting. Should have been presenting our pack’s achievements, networking with other alphas, securing new alliances. Instead, I was stuck here, waiting for news about Liana and our child.
The contractions had started two days ago, just as Ryan was preparing to leave for the council meeting in my place. At first, the pack doctor had been optimistic. First babies often took their time, he’d said. Everything looked normal.
But normal had quickly become complicated.
“Alpha Jaden?” Dr. Hendricks appeared in the doorway of his office, his expression grave. “Could I speak with you for a moment?”
I followed him into the small room, my wolf pacing anxiously. The doctor’s face told me everything I needed to know before he even opened his mouth.
“The baby’s position isn’t ideal,” he said without preamble. “And the head fitting tests we just completed show some concerning results. The baby appears to be larger than expected, and with the current positioning, manual delivery will be extremely difficult. The baby may not be able to pass through Liana’s pelvis safely.”
My stomach dropped. “What are you saying?”
“I’m saying that we have two options, both with risks. A cesarean section, or attempting natural birth, Given the baby’s size and position, along with Liana’s physical build, I’d estimate fifty–fifty odds for the mother with either approach.”
୮
“Both options have the same odds?”
Dr. Hendricks nodded grimly. “With surgery, we risk complications from the procedure itself, especially given Liana’s smaller frame. Although, the child will have a better chance at survival. With natural birth, we risk the baby getting stuck, and it’s guaranteed that both mother and child would experience trauma from a difficult delivery. Neither option is without significant danger.”
Fifty–fifty. No matter what we chose, Liana had only a fifty percent chance of survival.
“I need to discuss this with her,” I said.
“Of course. But Alpha, time is a factor here. The longer we wait, the more dangerous this becomes for everyone involved.”
CHAPTER JS-
42
I found Liana in the birthing suite, propped up against a mountain of pillows, her face flushed and sweaty frum the latest contraction. She looked so small in the trospital bed, so fragile.
“What did the doctor say?” she asked immediately, her hand moving protectively to her swollen belly.
I sat down beside her and took her free hand. “He wants to do surgery. Says it’s safer for both of you.” Her face immediately hardened. “No.”
“Liana, listen to me-”
“I said no, Jaden.” Her voice was sharp, final. “I’m not having my baby cut out of me like some kind of defective part. I want to give birth naturally, the way the goddess intended.”
“The doctor says both options have the same risks. At least with surgery-”
She pulled her hand away from mine. “You don’t have faith in me. You think I’m too weak, too small to deliver my own child.”
“This isn’t about weakness. It’s about the safety of my child. The baby is large, and your pelvis-”
“My pelvis is fine! It seems you don’t care about my safety. You only care about your child.” she snapped, then winced as another contraction hit.
She continued, her face flushed with anger. “Darius, I’ve been planning this birth for months. I’ve read everything, prepared everything. I know my body can do this, no matter what size the baby is.”
I stared at her, seeing the stubborn set of her jaw that I’d come to know so well over the past months. When Liana made up her mind about something, changing it was nearly impossible.
“The doctor says the odds are fifty–fifty either way,” I said quietly. “Why not choose the option that might be
less traumatic?”
“Because surgery isn’t natural!” She gripped my hand tighter. “Jaden, please. Trust me on this. Trust that i know what’s best for our baby. Women have been giving birth for thousands of years. My body was made
for this.”
I wanted to argue. Wanted to demand that she listen to medical expertise instead of her own stubborn pride. But I could see the desperation in her eyes, the need to prove something to herself and to me.
“If things get too dangerous,” I said finally, “if the doctor says we need to switch to surgery-”
“They won’t,” she cut me off. “Everything will be fine. You’ll see.”
That had been six hours ago.
Six hours of walking these same hallways, checking my phone for updates from Ryan about the council meeting, and listening to Liana’s increasingly pained cries from the birthing suite.
Dr. Hendricks had updated me twice, both times with growing concern in his voice. The baby wasn’t moving down the birth canal as expected. Liana was getting weaker with each passing hour. The natural

birth she’d insisted on was becoming a nightmare.
“Alpha?” A nurse appeared at my elbow. “She’s asking for you.”
I followed her back into the birthing suite, and my heart clenched at the sight of Liana. She was pale now, soaked in sweat, her breathing shallow and rapid. The strong, determined woman from this morning was gone, replaced by someone who looked like she was fighting for her life.
“Jaden,” she whispered when she saw me. “I think… I think something’s wrong.”
