Rejected by Her Mate Claimed by Four Alphas novel Chapter 135

CHAPTER 118-1

Clara’s POV

Three weeks had passed since the alpha meeting, and I’d almost convinced myself that the encounter with Lucien had been some kind of strange dream. Almost.

But then my phone buzzed with an unknown number, and everything came crashing back.

We need to meet. Urgently.”

I stared at the text message, my stomach dropping. The tone and assumption that I would just complyit sounded like Killian. My heart started racing as memories of our secret meetings flooded back.

Was he contacting me again? After weeks of silence?

My phone rang immediately after, and I hesitated. Part of me wanted to answer, wanted to hear his voice again despite everything that had happened. I thought about the way he’d made me feel, the dark promises he’d whispered, the way my body had responded to his touch.

But then I remembered Darius’s face after I had returned from seeing Killian that day. The way he’d looked at me while I had tried to sneak in unnoticed. The betrayal and pain in his eyes despite not yelling.

The memory sent a pang of guilt through my chest.

While I was still debating whether to answer, the phone rang again.

Clara. The voice wasn’t Killian’s. It was Lucien’s, crisp and businesslike, but I could hear an undercurrent

of something else. The same intensity from our encounter at the meeting.

How did you get this number?I asked, my relief at it not being Killian quickly replaced by a different kind

of anxiety.

That’s not important. What’s important is that we need to talk. There are things about that night at the

meeting that we didn’t finish discussing.

The reference to our encounter in the hallway made my pulse quicken. I could still remember the feel of

his hands on me, the intensity in his eyes when he’d claimed I belonged to him.

If this is about pack matters, you should be speaking to Beta Xander,” I said, trying to keep my voice

steady. Or better still, Alpha Darius himself.

This isn’t pack business, Clara. This is about us. About what I told you in that hallway.

The certainty in his voice sent chills down my spine. There is no us.

Isn’t there? There was a pause, and I could almost see him smiling that predatory smile. Meet me at the

old oak grove on the eastern border. Two hours.

I’m not meeting you anywhere.

Two hours, Clara. We have unfinished business. Things I need to explain to you about what you felt when I touched you.

The line went dead.

I stared at my phone, my hands trembling slightly. Bloodline? True nature? What kind of game was he playing?

I decided to ignore him. Whatever Lucien thought he knew about me, I didn’t need to hear it. I had enough complications in my life without adding his cryptic warnings to the mix.

But ignoring Lucien proved to be impossible.

My phone rang again thirty minutes later. I declined the call.

Then again twenty minutes after that. Declined.

Then again. And again.

By the fourth call, I was ready to throw my phone against the wall. I was in the middle of helping organize supplies for the pack’s daycare center, trying to focus on something normal and productive, when the constant ringing started driving me crazy.

Is everything alright?asked Sarah, one of the pack mothers who was helping me sort through donated toys. Your phone’s been going off all afternoon.

Just spam calls,I lied, forcing a smile. Nothing important.

But the calls kept coming. Every fifteen minutes, like clockwork. When I finally turned off my phone completely, he started calling the packhouse main line.

Clara,” said Maria, one of the pack’s reception staff, appearing in the doorway of the community center with an exasperated expression. There’s someone on the phone for you. Says it’s urgent pack business, but he won’t give me details. Just keeps asking for you specifically.

Pack business should be forwarded to Alpha Darius or Beta Xander,I said immediately. I don’t handle pack business calls.

Maria shifted uncomfortably. I told him that, but he insisted it was something that concerned you directly. Said it was about territory matters that you’d understand.

CHAPTER 118-2

Did he give his name?

He said you’d know who it was.Maria looked frustrated. Look, I’ve been trying to redirect this call for ten minutes. He’s verypersistent.

What exactly did he say?

Just that it was urgent, that it involved pack security, and that he needed to speak with you immediately. When I asked if he wanted to leave a message, he said he’d keep calling until you took the call.”

I felt my stomach tighten. How many times has he called?

This is the fourth time in the last hour. Each time, he’s more insistent.

Sarah looked up from the toys she was sorting. Maybe you should just take it? If it’s really about pack security

Pack security is handled by our security team,I said firmly. Not by me.

I know that,” Maria said, looking more exasperated by the minute. But he specifically asked for you. Said something about previous arrangements or agreements that you’d know about.

Previous arrangements? My blood ran cold. Was he referring to our encounter at the meeting?

I told him our protocols,Maria continued. Explained that all pack business goes through proper channels. But he said this was different, that it was personal pack business that only concerned you.

There’s no such thing as personal pack business,I said, but my voice sounded weak even to my own

ears.

That’s what I told him!Maria threw her hands up. But he won’t listen. And now he’s tying up our main

line. I’ve got other calls I need to take.

I closed my eyes and counted to ten. Tell him I’m busy.

I did. He said he’d keep calling until you spoke with him.

Of course he would.

Who is it?Sarah asked, looking concerned.

No one important,” I said through gritted teeth. Excuse me for a moment.
