Clara’s POV

The silence in the room stretched like a taut wire ready to snap. All eyes were on me, waiting for an

explanation I couldn’t give.

Darius turned to face me fully, his blue eyes searching my face. Clara? What’s Killian talking about?

My mouth opened, but no words came out. How could I explain that my kidnapping had been staged? That I’d deliberately let myself be taken so I could get close enough to Jaden to destroy him from the inside?

I’d been so careful with Darius. I’d managed to get him to focus on the present, on our future together,

instead of dwelling on the details of what had happened. But now Killian had kicked me right under the

bus.

It’s a valid question,Lucien said, leaning forward in his chair. His dark eyes were sharp, calculating.

Clara comes from a powerful bloodline. Someone with her abilities would sense danger long before it

reached her.

He didn’t mention exactly which bloodline, but the implication was clear. I was too strong, too skilled, too

aware of my surroundings to be caught off guard by someone like Jaden.

And even if somehow they managed to surprise her,Killian continued, his voice maddeningly calm, the amount of drugs it would take to knock out someone of Clara’s strength would be enough to kill a normal

wolf.

My stomach twisted as I realized how easily they’d poked holes in my story. These weren’t just any Alphas. They were smart, experienced, and they knew exactly how the game was played.

Ronan was watching me with interest now, his earlier focus on revenge temporarily forgotten. It does seem unlikely,he said slowly. Jaden’s pack has always been more bark than bite.

I felt trapped, cornered by their logic and their questions. The four most powerful Alphas I’d ever met were all staring at me, waiting for answers I couldn’t give without revealing the truth.

ľ

That’s when I felt it. A sudden churning in my stomach that had nothing to do with the stress of the

situation.

Bile rose in my throat so fast I barely had time to react.

I shot to my feet, one hand clamped over my mouth as my stomach rebelled against me.

Where do you think you’re going?Killian asked, standing as well. You can’t just run away from the

question.

I shook my head frantically, trying to signal that I wasn’t running That I had no plans of escaping. It was just that

The vomit came anyway.

+ held it back as much as I could, my cheeks puffed out as I fought against my body’s rebellion. But I knew

I had seconds before Host the battle entirely.

Without waiting for permission, I rushed toward Darius’s inoffice restroom, pushing through the door just as my control finally snapped.

Everything in my stomach came up at once. barely made it to the toilet before emptying my guts,

retching so hard my whole body shook.

Behind me, I could hear the scrape of chairs and heavy footsteps as all four men followed me to the

bathroom door.

Clara?Darius’s voice was full of concern. Are you okay?

I couldn’t answer. Another wave of nausea hit me, leaving me gasping and trembling over the toilet bowl.

She needs a doctor,Ronan said urgently.

I’ll call Dr. Hayes,” Lucien added, and I could hear him already dialing his phone.

When my stomach finally settled enough for me to sit back on my heels, I realized the interrogation about

my kidnapping had been completely forgotten. All four Alphas were focused entirely on my health now.

Perfect. This was exactly the distraction I needed.

I let myself slump against the bathroom wall, making sure I looked as weak and shaky as possible. It wasn’t entirely an act. The vomiting had left me dizzy and drained.

I’m okay,I said in a small voice, just loud enough for them to hear through the door. Justgive me a

minute.

Like hell you’re okay,Darius said. I could hear him pacing outside the bathroom. You just threw up

everything you’ve eaten today.”

Could be stress,” Killian said, though his earlier suspicion had been replaced by genuine concern.

Everything that’s happened lately

Or exhaustion,” Ronan added. She’s been through hell and back.

ľ

When I finally emerged from the bathroom, Darius was right there waiting for me. His arms went around me immediately, supporting my weight as I swayed slightly on my feet.

Easy,he murmured, his voice soft. I’ve got you.

I let myself lean into him, playing up the weakness even though I was feeling better already. The vomiting had been sudden and violent, but it had passed just as quickly.

I think I need to lie down,I said, making my voice sound fragile.

Without hesitation, Darius scooped me up in his arms. I wrapped my arms around his neck and let my

head rest against his shoulder, the picture of a woman who was completely spent.

Let’s get you to bed,he said, carrying me toward the door.

Cham

The other three Alphas followed closely behind us, their earlier interrogation completely forgotten in their worry about my health.

Darius’s room was on the same floor, just down the hall from his office. He carried me easily, like I

weighed nothing at all, and I had to admit there was something comforting about being held like this.

He laid me gently on his bed, pulling the covers up to my chin before stepping back to let the others crowd

around.

How are you feeling now?Lucien asked, his dark eyes scanning my face for signs of distress.
