CHAPTER 180

Clara’s POV

Days had passed since our compound filled with warriors from different packs. The sounds of training echoed everywhere, but life still went on.

I woke up that morning excited. Today was the day I’d planned something special for the children. A fun day with games and treats to help them forget about all the scary warriors and weapons around them.

Luna Clara!little Sarah ran up to me as I walked into the courtyard. Is it really happening today? The games and the cakes?

It really is,I said, kneeling down to her level. I even convinced the kitchen to make those honey cakes you love so much.

Her face lit up like sunshine. Soon, more children gathered around me.

The twins Jake and James bounced on their toes with excitement. Even some of the older kids who

usually acted too cool for games were asking questions about what we’d planned.

I’d set up different stations around the courtyard. One had a rope for jumping. Another had colored stones

for throwing into buckets.

Tina helped me arrange small prizes on a table near the fountain.

Alright everyone,I called out, clapping my hands together. Let’s start with the jumping contest!

The children cheered and ran toward the rope. Sarah tried first, managing three hops before getting

tangled up and giggling.

The twins went next, competing to see who could jump longer. Their mother watched from a bench,

smiling as they played.

I was laughing at James trying to untangle himself from the rope when the explosion hit.

The ground shook so hard I fell to my knees. Windows shattered everywhere. Pieces of stone and glass

flew through the air.

The children started screaming. Sarah fell down and skinned her knee. The twins grabbed each other, their eyes wide with terror.

The older kids looked around wildly, not understanding what was happening.

What was that?Tina shouted, running to scoop up Sarah.

Another explosion came, even louder. Then came the sounds of fighting, gunshots, people yelling, and the

clash of weapons.

Through the smoke, I saw people running across our compound. Some were our warriors. Others wore different clothes and carried weapons I didn’t know.

< CHAPTER180

This was a complete surprise attack. We hadn’t expected this at all.

Claim

Darius came running from the main building. Behind him, Xander stumbled out with blood running down

his face.

The outer guards are down, Xander said, pressing his hand to his bleeding head. Jaden brought an army. They hit us from all sides before our people could warn us.

How many?Darius asked.

At least five hundred,Xander said. Maybe more. They’re everywhere.

Five hundred. That was twice as many as we had. The reinforcements from the other packs that had

agreed to help us hadn’t shown up yet.

We were on our own.

But right now, I only cared about one thing.

The children,I said.

Then I heard his voice roaring over everything else.

CLARA!Jaden’s voice echoed across the compound. This is payback for what you did! Come out and

face me!

So this was his revenge. He’d brought more fighters than I thought possible to attack us when we least

expected it.

But Jaden didn’t know that I wasn’t the same woman he’d thrown away. I wasn’t just hiding anymore.

I’d been getting ready for something bigger. Now that he’d come to my home, I wouldn’t just fight back. I

would destroy him.

First, I had to get everyone safe.

This way!I shouted to the mothers and children. We need to get inside now!

But enemy warriors were already coming into the courtyard. They were cutting down anyone in their way.

It was hard getting everyone past the fighting since it happened so fast. I hadn’t expected this surprise

attack.

Move quickly!I called out, helping an old woman who couldn’t walk fast.

That’s when I saw him. A little boy standing alone in the middle of the courtyard, crying as he looked for

his mother.

An enemy warrior was walking toward him. The man was huge and had scars all over his arms. He was smiling like he enjoyed hurting people.

I ran across the courtyard as fast as I could. The warrior raised his fist to hit the child

grabbed his arm and twisted it until heard bones break. He screamed and fell back.

Stay behind me!I told the boy.

Cla

The warrior was twice my size, but I was fighting to protect a child. He swung his massive fist at my head.

I ducked under it and drove my knee straight up into his ribs. I heard them crack. He doubled over,

gasping.

My claws came out and I raked them across his throat in one quick motion. Blood sprayed everywhere.
