CHAPTER 202-1
Clara’s POV
Two days later, I was in the middle of reviewing supply reports when one of the guards knocked on the office door.
“Luna Clara, Alpha Ronan has arrived. He’s requesting to speak with you.”
I looked up from the papers scattered across the desk. “Ronan? I thought he’d returned to his pack.” “He did, Luna. But he’s back now. Says it’s urgent.”
I glanced over at Darius, who was studying territorial maps on the other side of the room. We’d been working all morning to establish new trade routes for the Shadowcrest survivors.
“Did he say what this was about?” Darius asked.
“No, Alpha. Just that he needed to speak with Luna Clara privately.”
Something cold settled in my stomach. After everything with Lucien, the last thing I needed was another complicated conversation with one of Darius’s allies.
“Send him in,” I said, setting the reports aside.
Darius started to move toward the door. “I should stay-”
“Actually,” I interrupted, “could you give us a few minutes? If it’s pack business, he might be more comfortable speaking freely.”
Darius’s eyes met mine, and I could see the question there. After what had happened with Lucien, he was
being more protective. But I needed to handle whatever this was on my own terms.
“I’ll be right outside,” he said, his voice carrying a warning that wasn’t meant for me.
When the door closed behind him, I stood to face Ronan. He looked different than he had during the
battle. More tense, more conflicted. Like he was carrying something heavy.
“Ronan,” I said. “This is unexpected. I thought you’d gone home.”
r
“I did.” He ran a hand through his hair, a gesture that spoke of nerves I’d never seen from him before. “But I
couldn’t stay away.”
“Is there a problem with your pack? Something we can help with?”
“No.” He stepped closer, and I could see something intense burning in his eyes. “Clara, I need to tell you something Something I should have said the moment we met.”
The tone of his voice made my pulse quicken. Not with excitement, but with dread. I’d heard that same intensity from Lucien just days ago.
“What is it?” I asked, though part of me already knew I didn’t want to hear the answer.
CHAPTER 20
“You’re my mate.”
+25 Points
The words hit me like a physical blow. I stared at him, waiting for him to take it back, to say he was joking, to explain that I’d misunderstood.
He didn’t.
“That’s not possible,” I said quietly.
“It is. I felt it the moment I saw you during the battle. That recognition, that pull. You felt it too, didn’t you?”
I thought back to that first moment when our eyes had met across the battlefield. There had been something, a strange sense of familiarity. But I’d attributed it to the chaos of the fight.
“Ronan, you have a mate. Mira.”
“Mira is my chosen mate,” he said. “But she’s not my true mate. You are.”
I sank back into my chair, feeling like the world was tilting sideways. “This can’t be happening.”
“I know it’s complicated-”
“Complicated?” I laughed, but there was no humor in it. “Ronan, in the span of a few days, I’ve had two different men tell me I’m their destined mate. This isn’t complicated. This is insane.”
His expression sharpened. “Two men? Who else?”
“Lucien. He claimed some Red Moon bloodline connection meant we were supposed to be together.”
