CHAPTER 203-1
Clara’s POV
After Ronan left the office, stayed there for a while, staring at the door. Another mate claim. Another man telling me my life was already planned out for me.
I rubbed my temples, trying to ease the headache building there. How had everything become so complicated?
The rest of the afternoon passed slowly. I threw myself into work, reviewing reports and making decisions about supplies and housing arrangements. Anything to keep my mind busy and away from the mess my personal life had become.
By evening, I was exhausted. Not just physically, but emotionally. The weight of secrets and complications was pressing down on me like a heavy blanket.
I was getting ready to head to our room when I heard a commotion outside. Voices, horses, the organized chaos of a large group arriving.
I looked out the window and saw a familiar figure dismounting in the courtyard. Even from three floors up, I could recognize that confident swagger.
Killian.
Perfect. Because my day definitely needed more complications.
I watched as one of the staff approached him, probably offering to show him to the guest quarters. He nodded and followed, his warriors spreading out to handle their horses and equipment.
An hour later, I was trying to decide what to wear to dinner when a servant knocked on our door.
“Luna Clara, Alpha Darius, dinner is ready. Alpha Killian, Alpha Lucien, and Alpha Ronan will be joining you.”
Great. Dinner with four Alphas. This should be interesting.
“We’ll be right down,” I called back.
Darius appeared from the washroom, looking handsome in a clean shirt and dark pants. “Ready for this?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be.”
The dining room had been set up differently tonight. Instead of the usual long table, they’d arranged a
smaller round table. I took what would be considered the head position, with the four men settling around
Darius şat to my right, his usual spot. Ronan took the chair directly across from me, Killian settled to my left with that easy grace he always had, and Lucien took the remaining seat between Killian and Ronan.
“Clara,” Killian said as the servants began bringing out the first course. “You look lovely tonight. That dress is a beautiful color on you.”

“Thank you,” I said politely, trying not to look at Lucien. I could feel his eyes on me, but I wasn’t ready to deal with whatever he might say after what had happened between us in the garden.
“So, Killian,” Darius said, cutting into his meat. “What brings you to Shadowcrest? I thought you were heading back to your territory.”
“Change of plans,” Killian replied with a grin. “Theard there were interesting developments here. Thought I’d stick around and see what all the fuss was about.”
I could feel both Ronan’s and Lucien’s eyes on me. Ronan had been quiet since we sat down, but I could sense the tension in him. Lucien was equally silent, but there was something in his stillness that made me
nervous.
“What kind of developments?” I asked carefully.
“Oh, you know. Pack consolidations, new alliances, territorial expansions.” Killian’s smile widened. “The kind of changes that create opportunities for those smart enough to recognize them.”
“Speaking of opportunities,” Darius said, turning to Ronan, “I’m curious why you’re still here. Didn’t you say you’had urgent pack business?”
Ronan set down his fork. “My business here isn’t finished.”
“What kind of business?” Killian asked, looking between us with obvious interest.
“Alliance discussions,” I said quickly. “Trade agreements and mutual defense.”
“Ah,” Killian nodded knowingly. “Very important stuff.”
