CHAPTER 214
Alpha Darius’s POV
The door crashed open with a sound like thunder.
I stood there in the doorway, my chest heaving from rage and adrenaline. My wolf was still snarling inside me, ready for violence, ready for blood.
But what I saw stopped me cold.
Clara sat up in the bed, her eyes wide with shock from the sudden noise. Her hair was disheveled, her nightgown twisted around her body. Her face was flushed, her breathing heavy.
She was alone. Completely alone.
No betraying Alpha. No secret lover. Just Clara, looking startled and confused by my violent entrance.
My wolf went quiet, confused by what we were seeing.
“Darius?” Clara’s voice was soft, uncertain. “What are you doing here?”
I stepped into the room, my anger faltering. The door hung off its hinges behind me, wood splintered and
broken. Clara’s eyes went wide as she took in the destruction.
“I heard sounds,” I said, my voice rough from the rage that was still coursing through me. “I thought
someone was in here with you.”
Clara pulled her nightgown down to cover her legs, her cheeks turning red with embarrassment. “There’s
no one here. Just me.”
The way she was sitting, the way her hair was messed up, the flush on her skin. She looked thoroughly disheveled, like someone who had been caught in an intimate moment.
My wolf perked up with interest. Maybe she had been thinking about us. Maybe she missed us so much that even alone, she was consumed with need for her mate.
I moved closer to the bed, hope flickering in my chest. “Were you thinking about me?”
For a moment, I allowed myself to believe that maybe I’d been wrong about everything. Maybe Killian had been lying. Maybe this was all some sick game to drive me crazy with jealousy.
Maybe Clara had been here alone, missing me, wanting me.
But Clara looked away, unable to meet my eyes. “I was just resting.”
“Resting,” I repeated, studying her flushed face, her heavy breathing, the way she wouldn’t look directly at
Something was off. If she’d been thinking about her mate, she would have reached for me by now. She would have pulled me close, let me comfort her, let me satisfy whatever need had left her in this state.
CHAPTER 21.
But instead, she was pulling away. Avoiding my eyes. Acting quilty.
“Clara,” I said softly, reaching out to touch her cheek. “What’s wrong?”
She jerked away from my touch like it burned her. “Nothing’s wrong. You just startled me.”

My wolf stirred uneasily. This wasn’t right. This wasn’t how a mate should reast to her partner’s presence. Then the memories came flooding back. All the things that had been said in that meeting room just minutes ago.
Killian’s smug voice echoing in my head: “Clara and I have been spending time together. The intimate kind.”
The way he’d described their encounters in detail. The satisfaction in his eyes when he talked about her passion, her vocal responses to his touch.
My chest tightened with growing dread. What if she hadn’t been thinking about me at all?
Just as I was about to move closer to her, to demand answers, the flashes hit me.
Killian’s taunting words: “We enjoyed having fun in your neighboring pack together. Very thoroughly. Clara
has excellent stamina for someone so delicate looking.”
Ronan’s calm declaration: “Clara is my mate. I had felt the mate bond with her for months, so it’s definitely
real,”
Lucien’s cold reminder: “You’re already losing, Darius.”
I froze where I sat, my body going rigid as the full weight of their claims crashed over me again.
My wolf snarled with sudden fury. What if Clara hadn’t been thinking about me at all? What if she’d been thinking about one of them?
The doubt was creeping in now, spreading through my chest like poison. What if the reason she looked so guilty, so flushed, so thoroughly satisfied, was because she’d been lost in thoughts of another man?
A huge part of me started having doubts. What if she wasn’t even thinking of me? What if she had been with those Alphas like they claimed? Who else could she have been with?
My wolf whined with confusion and pain. We’d thought our mate was faithful, devoted, ours. But what if we’d been wrong all along?
The evidence was mounting. Three different Alphas, all claiming intimate knowledge of my mate. All describing details that seemed too specific to be lies.
And now here Clara was, looking guilty as hell, unable to explain her condition, avoiding my eyes like she had something to hide.
My chest tightened with growing dread. How many others could there have been? If she’d been meeting with Killian, Ronan, and possibly Lucien, who else had she been entertaining?
< CHAPTER 233
How many other men had captured her thoughts? How many other Alphas had she fantasized about while I thought she was faithful?
The anger and disappointment crashed over me in waves. This woman I’d given everything to. This mate I’d protected and loved and built a future with
She’d been thinking about other men. Wanting other men. Maybe even being with other men.
