CHAPTER 218

Clara’s POV

It means that if you choose Darius, you might not get another chance with the rest of us,Killian said. His ultimatum works both ways. Choose him, and you lose us forever.”

The threat was delivered with his usual charm, but it was still a threat.

After he left, I felt more confused than ever. Killian’s offer was ternpting in many ways, but his willingness to hurt others for his own benefit left me feeling cold and empty.

I spent the morning trying to distract myself with pack business. There were reports to review, schedules to approve, and a dozen other administrative tasks that needed my attention.

It was almost therapeutic, focusing on mundane details instead of the impossible choice franging over my head. For a few hours, I could pretend I was just a normal Luna dealing with normal pack problems.

The phone rang just as I was finishing up some paperwork. The caller ID showed it was Alpha Richardson from the Northern Territory.

Alpha Richardson,” I answered. Good afternoon.

Luna Clara, came the deep, gravelly voice from the other end. I hope I’m not catching you at a bad time.

Not at all. What can I do for you?

I wanted to follow up on our discussion about the trade agreements,Richardson said. My council has reviewed your proposals, and we’re prepared to move forward.

A surge of satisfaction went through me. This deal had been in negotiation for months, and closing it would bring significant benefits to both our territories.

That’s excellent news,I said. What are the next steps?

I’ll have my Beta draft the formal documents and send them over for your review,Richardson said. We

r should be able to finalize everything within the week.

Perfect. I’ll have our legal team standing by.”

Good, good,” Richardson said, and I could hear the smile in his voice. I have to say, Clara, it’s been a pleasure working with you on this. You drive a hard bargain, but you’re fair about it.

Thank you. I try to find solutions that benefit everyone involved.

You certainly do,” Richardson said, his tone warm with approval. Taking over Shadowcrest after everything that happened with Jaden couldn’t have been easy, but you’ve handled the transition brilliantly. Your pack is lucky to have someone with your leadership skills.

My chest tightened slightly at the mention of Jaden and everything that had happened. The fight, his death, the chaos that had followed. But Richardson was right about one thing. I had managed to bring

stability to Shadowcrest in the aftermath.

It’s been challenging,I admitted. But the pack deserved better than what they were getting before.

They certainly did, Richardson agreed. And they have it now. I’ve heard nothing but good things about how you’ve reorganized things, improved conditions for the pack members. That takes real skill

I had good advisors,” I said, thinking of Barius and how touch he’d helped me in those early days.

Maybe, but you’re the one making the decisions. Don’t sell yourself short, Clara. You’ve proven yourself to be one of the strongest Alphas in the region.

If only he knew how weak I felt right now, how lost and confused.

Thank you,I said simply.

Well, I should let you go,Richardson said. I’ll have those documents to you by tomorrow afternoon.

I’ll look forward to reviewing them. Thank you for calling, Alpha Richardson.

Anytime, Luna Clara. Take care.

After hanging up, I felt a small sense of accomplishment. At least something in my life was going according to plan, even if everything else was falling apart. The praise from Richardson reminded me that

I had built something here, something worth protecting.

But it also made me think about Darius and how much of my success was tied to his support and guidance. Without him, would I be strong enough to hold everything together?

I glanced at the clock and realized it was nearly dinnertime. My stomach was starting to rumble, reminding me that I’d barely eaten anything all day.

The pack dining hall was bustling with activity when I arrived. Long tables filled the space, occupied by pack members sharing meals and conversation. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, a stark contrast to the turmoil in my own heart.

Several pack members waved when they saw me, calling out friendly greetings. A few of the younger ones had saved jokes to share, making me laugh despite my heavy mood. For a moment, surrounded by their warmth and acceptance, I could almost forget about the impossible choice hanging over me.

Luna Clara, called out Seraphina, one of the mothers, my little Sophie drew you a picture today. She wanted me to give it to you.

She handed me a crayon drawing of what looked like a stick figure with long hair standing next to several other stick figures.

That’s you with our family,Seraphina explained with a smile. Sophie says you’re the best Luna we’ve ever

had.

The simple gesture brought tears to my eyes. I was happy that people in the pack have slowly began to accept me, trust me, follow me despite this being one of the darkest times in their pack’s history seeing as

they lost Jaden despite him being a dumb jerk.

They deserved a leader who was focused on them, not torn between four different mates.
