Just two days after the mothers met, Carter was summoned back to the main estate.

The driver shook his head. "No, ma'am. But two days ago, Jeff texted me and told me to handle all your transportation for the time being."

Emma pressed her lips together, her mind wandering distractedly for the entire ride.

Her marriage to Carter was completely fake. It shouldn't matter if he came home or arranged her rides.

Emma frowned. "What's wrong with him?"

"It's... well... The boss said he'd explain everything to you later. It's not my place to say. I have to go now, Mrs. Harrington."

Emma stared at the disconnected screen, a surge of irritation flaring up inside her.

"Julian, do you know anything about Douglas Harrington being hospitalized?"

Julian paused. "Give me ten minutes. I'll call you right back."
