Emma looked at her parents, who were also walking over, and nodded.

"Fine."

It was just a small domestic pharmaceutical plant; she hadn't cared much about it in the first place.

But Charles approached looking troubled, casting an apologetic glance at Gillian. "Gillian, I'm afraid she won't be able to transfer the shares back for the next few days."

"What do you mean?" Gillian felt a surge of unease. Did her father want to welcome Emma back into the Lockwood family just because she had scored a CFT invitation?

She absolutely refused to accept that.

In a split second, Gillian assumed an aggrieved expression.

"I know that was the birthday gift Dad gave her. I shouldn't have asked for it. I don't deserve it."

Charles quickly explained, his heart aching for her. "No, Gillian, that's not it. There's an issue over at Lockwood Pharma, and they have to halt production for an inspection. During this period, there can be no changes to the company's equity. Once the inspection is over, the shares will be transferred to you."

After speaking, he shot Emma a suspicious look. The timing of this incident was truly bizarre.

Emma was thoroughly surprised. What a coincidence. Could there be some sort of conspiracy?

Clearly, Gillian also thought it was too coincidental.

Once she confirmed her father wasn't stalling because of Emma, she dropped the pitiful act almost instantly and demanded with utter suspicion, "Emma, you're the one behind this, aren't you? You think this little stunt will let you keep the shares? That's ridiculous."

Mr. Lockwood spoke up as if suddenly realizing the truth. "I never expected you to become so calculating. I am truly disappointed in you."

Charles held back his expression of pure disgust out of respect for Carter's presence.

Emma frowned impatiently. "This has nothing to do with me. I already agreed to transfer the shares to you."

She was actually worried that any problems at the plant would drag her down with it.

"Transfer them to me? They belonged to me in the first place!" Gillian rolled her eyes dramatically. "Let's just hope you don't pull any more stunts after this inspection. I don't care if the shares stay in your hands a little longer."

With that, she walked away.
