Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 224

Tristan froze in place, the physical agony suddenly dwarfed by the suffocating pain in his chest.

"Emma, let me."

Carter stepped up, grabbing Emma gently by the arm before attempting to yank the door open himself.

But the door was completely jammed. Emma's eyes grew red with panic.

"Break the window!"

She yelled urgently. Carter's eyes darkened. Planting one hand firmly on the hood, he drove his leg hard into the edge of the driver's side window.

He delivered several brutal kicks until a hairline fracture webbed across the glass. Bending down, he gathered his strength and practically tore the window frame apart with his bare hands.

By then, the bodyguards had finally caught up, rushing over in a swarm to help pry the wreckage apart.

"Tristan! How badly are you hurt?"

When Mavis finally reached the scene, she thought her first instinct would be to check on Travis. But seeing Tristan's bloodied face and the shattered, hollow look in his eyes, she was struck by a sudden realization—she had fallen in love with Tristan a long time ago.

Her lingering attachment to Travis had just been an illusion.

Tristan didn't answer. His grip on the car tightened into a white-knuckled fist as a sudden, violent wave of dizziness washed over him.

"Tristan!"

His last fading memory was Mavis screaming his name in panic, and the fleeting, rushed glance Emma had cast him in the chaos.

Tristan's lips curved into a faint, self-deprecating smile.

"Looks like I need to hire a geomancy master to inspect this hospital's location. You guys are practically VIPs here lately."

Julian Vance strolled down the corridor, glancing at the operating room doors before looking at Emma, whose face was still etched with anxiety.

"Don't worry too much. Thankfully, both of them were driving top-tier cars with elite safety features. The doctors said Travis didn't suffer any life-threatening injuries. Just relax."

Emma bit her lip, guilt pooling in her eyes. "It's all my fault. If it wasn't for me, he wouldn't have acted so recklessly."

"His childish, impulsive brain is his own problem. It has nothing to do with you."

Julian comforted his junior colleague. If he had known, he never would have let Travis return to the country. All he did was cause her trouble.

Julian turned his head in disdain, but out of the corner of his eye, he caught Carter standing near the window, subtly trying to hide his hand, which was still dripping blood.

Emma grabbed Carter's uninjured arm with uncompromising force, dragging him toward the medical room.

"Are you an idiot? You're bleeding and you don't say a word? What were you trying to prove by toughing it out?"

Emma couldn't help but scold him. Hearing the fierce worry in her voice, Carter actually felt a surge of pure joy.

Was this the fabled 'scolding out of deep love'?

"My mistake." Carter had to practically bite his tongue to keep his grin from showing.

Emma shot him a withering glare, her brows still knitted tightly.

"Don't ever do this again. If you're hurt, tell me."

Carter gave a soft hum of agreement, a profound warmth settling deep in his gaze.

When they entered the medical room, the nurse was still there. He boldly wrapped his good arm around Emma's waist, his voice dropping into a pitiful whine.

"Honey, my arm really hurts."
