Emma had previously mentioned hiring a sketch artist, and she actually followed through.
"Pamela, could you do me a favor and describe my biological mother's appearance to him again?"
Emma returned to the Harrington estate and sought out Pamela.
Pamela offered a gentle smile. "Of course, no problem."
For the next hour, the artist worked diligently based on Pamela's descriptions.
"That's her."
Pamela pointed at the final portrait, her eyes wide with astonishment at how perfectly accurate it was.
Joy danced in Emma's eyes. "Thank you, Pamela. Having a face to look for makes things so much easier."
"You're welcome. I truly hope you find your family."
Pamela looked deeply sincere. Emma carefully packed the portrait away. Just as she was about to leave, she noticed Phoebe and her mother standing at the entrance of the estate.
"Ma'am, did my daughter do something wrong? If she made a mistake, I'll make sure she fixes it, but please don't kick us out."
Emma paused in surprise. Seeing Scarlett walking by, she called her over.
"What's going on?"
Phoebe had grown up sponsored by the Harringtons. She had lived on the estate her whole life. While she wasn't treated like a wealthy heiress, she certainly wasn't a maid, either.
Besides, she was highly capable. The Harringtons had nurtured her into a massive talent. Why were they suddenly kicking her out?
Scarlett's expression was complicated. "Mom found out from Eleanor Kent that when Harvey set you up, Phoebe was the one who helped lure you into the trap," she whispered. "Mom is furious, so she's throwing them both out."
She stormed out, lifting her chin. "Phoebe is a well-known designer. Are you telling me she can't even afford to live in the city on her own?"
Miriam opened her mouth, speechless. It wasn't the same thing at all.
Relying on the Harringtons was completely different from making it on their own.
"Miss, it's so hard to make a living out there. Phoebe is still young, and she just entered the real world. How is she supposed to handle it?"
Scarlett scoffed. "So you're saying you two planned to leech off our family forever?"
Mortified, Phoebe tried to pull her mother away. The Harringtons had done enough. She was in her twenties now; there was no excuse to stay.
Miriam resisted. Catching sight of Emma standing in the distance, she immediately sprinted over.
"Emma! You and Phoebe are such good friends! Please, beg them for us. Let her stay."
