Carter didn't answer directly. Instead, he turned to Emma.
"Wait for me in the car."
Emma pressed her lips together, her gaze turning cold as it flicked over Raymond.
"Honey."
Carter's eyes softened. He knew Emma was annoyed, but he didn't want her getting into a direct confrontation with Raymond.
Emma saw his silent plea. Giving him face, she withdrew her stare, turned on her heel, and walked away.
Raymond glared at him in sheer disappointment. He waited until Emma was out of earshot before speaking. "Look at how pathetic and whipped you are."
"You act the exact same way around Pamela, don't you?"
Carter's expression hardened. Raymond scoffed coldly. "Leave your aunt out of this. Do you realize what halting the new media division for half a month means?"
"What does it mean? Harrington Corp isn't going to go bankrupt. We have dozens of other divisions running at full capacity. There's no need to panic."
Carter genuinely didn't care about the negligible financial hit. Even if every single company under the Harrington umbrella stopped working right now, their amassed wealth was enough to burn through for lifetimes.
"Starting tomorrow, have Percy join you at corporate. Give him a Vice President title. It's time he learned how to help manage the company."
Carter's eyes turned predatory. "No."
Raymond hadn't expected a rejection, let alone such an immediate, uncompromising one. He frowned deeply. "No?"
Since when did Carter learn to be such a tyrant?
Was he that terrified of having someone inserted into his ranks to steal his power?
"You've already handed him plenty of companies. Isn't that enough for him to practice with?"
