"Do you just love handing out watches to other men?" Percy's expression was incredibly dark.
Emma looked right at him, her words pointed. "I gave one to you once, too."
Percy's face shifted. He suddenly remembered a few years ago when he had bragged about winning a rare red sandalwood bracelet at an auction. He had been so proud of it.
Emma had subsequently bought him a watch, telling him it suited his vibe much better.
But he had been angry at the time. He felt that since Carter had just acquired a priceless antique, wearing a cheap watch from her would only invite mockery, so he had flat-out rejected it.
"We were dating back then. What exactly is your relationship with Carter now?" Percy's gaze churned with complex emotions. Did she just hand out expensive watches to any man she saw?
"It's just a watch. It doesn't mean anything. I give it to whoever wants it."
Emma's answer carried a double meaning. She was referring both to the watch she had just handed off, and the one Percy had given her years ago—which he had callously demanded back recently.
Percy grew furious. Seeing her try to walk past him, he suddenly reached out and pinned her against the wall.
"What exactly is going on between you and my—"
Before he could finish the sentence, he was violently yanked backward. Before he even saw the man's face, a heavy punch slammed into his jaw.
"Damn it, what kind of psycho dares to hit me? Do you have any idea who I—Carter?"
Percy's blind rage evaporated the second he registered the man standing next to Emma. He instantly cowered.
He covered his bruising face, looking pathetic as his eyes darted nervously between the two of them.
"You have a girlfriend now. If you can't remember the Harrington family's standards, get out of my sight and face the disciplinary committee at home."
Carter's voice was low, vibrating with suppressed fury.
"I'm sorry, Carter." Percy kept his head bowed, lacking the courage to even look him in the eye.
Carter turned to Emma, his tone shifting into something vastly more gentle. "Did he scare you? I apologize, the Harrington family clearly lacks discipline."
Emma straightened her scarf and smoothed her hair, shaking her head slightly. She walked out without offering Percy a single glance.
