While Carter and Emma went on vacation, the York family was in a state of absolute panic.
They had lost multiple major projects and massive contracts in rapid succession, suffering catastrophic financial blows in a matter of days.
"You idiot! Phoebe offended Emma and Jocelyn at the fashion show, proving she has zero sense. Yet you still stood up for her and blatantly disrespected Emma! What were you thinking?"
Mr. York glared at his youngest son, furious that this disaster was entirely self-inflicted.
Mrs. York tried to comfort Owen. "Mr. Harrington is usually reasonable. His business style isn't normally this vicious. I'll go talk to his mother and beg for mercy. This might blow over."
"Blow over? Carter is clearly making an example out of us, warning everyone in our circles that no one is allowed to bully Emma. Do you really think only the Harrington family is involved?"
Mr. York glared at his wife, pulling up the trending news headlines to show her shocked face.
"Several of our branch managers were suddenly exposed for corporate misconduct. Are you telling me that wasn't the King family's doing? And several of our long-term pharmaceutical partners just halted their contract renewals. Even our raw material suppliers have cut us off."
The Reynolds family was the largest supplier of raw pharmaceutical materials in the country. Mrs. York gasped. "The Reynolds family is seeking revenge for Emma too?"
"If only that were true."
Mr. York glared at Owen again and let out a heavy sigh.
"I had someone look into it. Reynolds Corporation is currently hyper-focused on overseas real estate. They left their entire domestic raw materials business for Emma to manage."
Mrs. York was stunned. The Reynolds family had built their entire empire on pharmaceutical materials. Handing their core foundation to a girl outside the bloodline? The Reynolds family valued Emma that much?
"Stupid fool. Of all people to offend, you had to cross Emma."
Mr. York cursed again, just as Gavin walked into the room.
"Dad, maybe I should go talk to them."
Mr. York gave his eldest son a long look. At this point, they had no other choice.
Meanwhile, Carter's chosen vacation spot was a luxurious seaside resort. This time, he didn't pull any petty tricks and simply had the staff prepare the resort's largest, most lavish villa.
"The sunlight here is amazing, and the breeze is absolutely perfect."
Jocelyn lay back in a lounge chair in the villa's massive garden, the umbrella perfectly shading her face while a female attendant massaged sunscreen and oils into her skin.
"Your luggage has been placed in the inner suite," Carter told Emma.
Jocelyn caught the phrasing, and her eyes lit up with mischief.
"You're not staying together? Is her period still not over?"
Jocelyn started to sit up, but realizing the attendant wasn't finished with the sunscreen, she lay back down and waved Emma over. "Come here. Let me check your pulse."
