Emma's heart skipped a beat. Carter never went to places like that?
She suddenly recalled an argument between Percy and Carter she had overheard. There had been a mention of a black card.
At the thought, Emma took another large gulp of her juice.
"I accept your apology."
She didn't explicitly promise to call off the corporate attack, but she stood up, signaling the end of the conversation.
The moment she rose, Carter was instantly on his feet inside the bar.
Gavin raised an eyebrow. "I'll be staying in the area for a few days. I'll stick around until you're completely cooled off."
He knew perfectly well that Emma's assault on the York family wouldn't end after just two days. If she backed off now, people might think she was scared of them.
By staying nearby for an extended period, he was publically cementing the narrative that the York family had bowed to her. That was all he needed.
Emma appreciated how straightforward it was to communicate with Gavin. Carter, however, stepped out just in time to hear Gavin call her name so affectionately, and his brow furrowed in severe displeasure.
"Are you done talking?" Carter shot a frigid glare at Gavin, an unmistakable hostility simmering in his eyes.
Emma nodded, picking up her half-finished drink.
"Let's go back to the beach."
Carter was all too eager to whisk her away. Gavin finally stopped stirring his drink and carried his cocktail inside.
Jocelyn was sitting in a secluded booth, a tablet displaying breathtaking photos of Emma propped up in front of her.
She was deeply engrossed in sketching a new design on her laptop.
"I didn't expect Ms. King to be working so hard on vacation."
Gavin slid into the seat opposite her, casting a shadow over her screen.
Jocelyn looked up, her annoyance flaring instantly. When she saw it was Gavin, her anger dissolved into a cold indifference. She glanced out the window.
