Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 7

Hearing that demand, even Emma's confident smile faltered into sheer disbelief.

She had flown back exclusively for their engagement, meaning almost every piece of clothing and jewelry she currently had on was something Percy had gifted her. He had explicitly told her he loved seeing her wear the things he bought.

Even though the gifts were sparse and hardly luxury tier, she had still made a point to wear them for the occasion.

The entire VIP suite waited with bated breath, eager to watch Emma humiliate herself.

Abruptly, the man in the corner stood up, bridging the distance until he was towering over both Percy and Emma.

"Have you caused enough of a scene?"

He spoke in a flat, monotone voice, yet it carried a suffocating wave of authority.

Percy's arrogant bravado crumbled instantly. "Carter, this is personal. Could you just stay out of it?"

"Personal?"

Carter only threw the word back at him with glacial indifference. Percy immediately ducked his head, dropping his hand like a scolded child too terrified to speak.

Emma watched the interaction with intense fascination. She didn't personally know the man, but the moment Percy addressed him so submissively, she instantly pieced together his identity.

He was the eldest grandson of the main branch, the undisputed future heir to the Harrington empire, and the only man in the entire Capital Elite Circle worthy of being called Mr. Harrington—Carter Harrington.

Percy had once mentioned that the single person he feared most in his family was this aggressively severe cousin.

"Weren't you leaving?" Carter asked plainly.

Emma raised an eyebrow, flashing a brilliant smile. "Thank you for the assist, Carter. But he actually made a valid point. If we're cutting ties, I might as well make it a clean break."

True to her word, she began unhooking her accessories, tossing her earrings and necklace onto the table.

But the moment Emma moved to unbuckle her watch, Percy's face completely froze.

"Emma, just swallow your pride for one second. Beg me, and I'll let you keep that watch."

At his pathetic offer, Emma let out a sharply condescending laugh.

"In your eyes, my feelings are completely worthless. Believe me, I feel the exact same way about your trash."

That watch had been the single gift she received for her eighteenth birthday.

She had tried calling her parents all day, but they completely ignored her, only sending a lazy text hours later claiming they were tied up with work.

Just as she had spiraled into total heartbreak, Percy showed up.
