Rejected Heiress, Reigning Queen novel Chapter 84

Emma was en route to the Harrington Group headquarters when a group of people suddenly blocked her car.

"Get out. We need to talk."

Percy Harrington stood by her door, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Gillian clung to his arm, looking every bit the possessive girlfriend staking her claim.

"I'm busy," Emma replied coldly.

Gillian scowled. "I'm asking you a question. What did you do to Harvey Kent? Do you have any idea that his parents are currently at our house demanding answers? Hand him over right now, before this blows up in your face. You can't handle the consequences."

Emma raised a brow. Harvey Kent was missing?

"Don't play dumb with me. You're always preaching about repaying the Lockwood family, and this is how you do it? By dragging us into your mess?" Gillian glared at her furiously. "Mom told me to find you today. If you don't believe me, I'll have her come here and tell you herself."

Emma actually laughed at the threat.

"Do you honestly think bringing Violet into this is going to make me listen to you?"

The idea that they could manipulate her with the guilt of an 'upbringing' was laughable.

"Emma, not many people know you were drugged by Harvey yet. If word gets out, your reputation is completely ruined. We need to sit down and figure this out before things get worse."

Percy's expression was grim. He was desperate to know if Harvey had actually succeeded that night.

"Even if things escalate, what's the worst that happens? If the Kent family produces evidence of the drugging, they're admitting to a felony. If they can't, it's defamation. How does any of this hurt me?"

Emma sat comfortably in her seat, a mocking smirk playing on her lips.

"It's just the Kent family. Did you really think I'd be intimidated by them?"

Furious, Gillian lunged forward and yanked on the door handle, but it was locked. Her tantrum achieved absolutely nothing.

Percy's patience was wearing thin. Just then, Phoebe Sterling came jogging up to the car.

"Emma, I really want to talk to you."

Emma's eyes darkened, her gaze fixed on Phoebe with a heavy, complex intensity.

Phoebe wrung the hem of her shirt, her eyes brimming with guilt and apprehension.

"Get in."

Emma genuinely wanted to know why Phoebe had helped Harvey. Knowing her, she wouldn't have actively participated in something so malicious.

Phoebe hurried to the passenger side. At the same time, Gillian reached out to grab the door frame.
