A mocking smile spread across Emma's face.
"I've heard that line so many times my ears are bleeding." She rubbed her ear dramatically and added with a dismissive wave, "I'd advise you to keep your voice down if you still want a shot at a contract with the Vance Group today."
Her mentor was literally standing on the stage. Why shouldn't she throw her weight around?
"So what if you're here representing CFT? You think that gives you the right to act high and mighty in front of Mr. Vance? You traded your body to the Kent family just to get Mr. Vance's itinerary. How do you have the nerve to sit there and act like you own the place?"
Gillian marched over, loudly exposing the Harvey incident for the entire room to hear.
The guests instantly erupted in hushed, gossipy whispers. The phrase 'traded your body' was simply too scandalous to ignore.
"Heh."
Carter let out a dark, freezing laugh, his eyes snapping up. The sheer oppressive weight of his glare caused Gillian to flinch backward in terror.
But before he could say a word, Julian was already striding toward them.
"What did you just say?"
Julian looked at Emma with deep concern. It wasn't that he believed Gillian's garbage, but he wanted to know if there was another layer to the attack he hadn't been told about.
Gillian, completely misreading his gaze, assumed he was disgusted by Emma and immediately raised her voice. "Emma sold herself— Ah! You dare hit me?"
Gillian clutched her face, glaring furiously at Emma.
"You're just feeling guilty! You're terrified I'm going to expose all your dirty secrets!"
Gillian burst into dramatic tears. Emma calmly stood up, walked right up to her, and grabbed her by the collar. "Spreading rumors will land you in jail, Gillian. I'd think very carefully before opening your mouth again."
"What the hell do you think you're doing? Gillian is telling the truth! You have no right to touch her! I raised you for years, and a dog would have shown more gratitude. I am going to teach you a lesson today!"
