Carter and Emma were seated in the very front row, which was sparsely populated.

"Carter? Emma? What are you two doing sitting... together?" Percy Harrington's voice dripped with confusion and a flicker of unease as he walked in with Gillian on his arm.

He was particularly stunned by Emma.

Dressed in an elegant, sweeping gown, she sat gracefully with a cashmere throw draped over her lap, radiating a cool, untouchable elegance.

It was a jarring contrast to the girl Percy remembered, who always wore plain t-shirts and jeans.

Emma barely spared them a glance. "Is that any of your business?"

Gillian glared at her with pure venom, suddenly smirking. "Emma, don't tell me you're here for the blue diamond ring too? What a shame. That ring is destined to be mine."

"Destined? We'll see about that."

Emma didn't actually care about the ring, but she wasn't about to pass up an opportunity to shut Gillian down.

Gillian took the bait instantly, her eyes flashing. "How about a bet, then? If you win the diamond ring, I'll do whatever you want. But if I win it, you have to hand it to me and publicly beg for my forgiveness. Are you brave enough to take that bet?"

Even Percy looked startled by the stakes.

"Are you out of your mind? My cousin is sitting right there. Are you seriously betting against her?"

Percy's gaze darkened. He highly doubted Carter was just here to sightsee.

Emma also thought Gillian was delusional. A bet with such an obvious outcome was barely worth the effort.

"What? Scared?" Gillian sneered, looking down her nose at Emma with absolute confidence.

Emma's lips curved upward. "Sure. If you lose, you follow your own rules. You bring the ring to me and beg like a servant."

Gillian raised an arrogant eyebrow and immediately flagged down an official representative from the auction house to witness and validate the wager.

By the time the paperwork was signed, Percy was absolutely convinced Gillian had lost her mind.
