As they moved forward, the mist grew denser. The color of the mist gradually darkened, almost turning black.
Hidden within the mist was a faint trace of demonic energy. Though they could still see the sun, it appeared dim and hazy, barely visible through the thick fog.
"Are we there yet?" Sebastian asked.
"We're close. We're almost there," Lillian responded.
Sebastian suddenly stopped in his tracks because he felt very uneasy.
"Why did you stop? We're almost there," Lillian said in confusion.
Sebastian closed his eyes all of a sudden. He focused, quickly circulating the active and passive energies within his body. When he opened his eyes again, he was shocked by the scene in front of him. He realized that there was a massive pit in front.
The pit before him was pitch black, as if an eerie force had swallowed all the light, creating a pathway straight to the underworld.
One more step forward, and he would fall into the abyss. Yet, Lillian was mysteriously hovering above the pit as faint demonic energy radiated from her.
Sebastian broke into a cold sweat in an instant as he realized that the Lillian before him was also an imposter.
Unaware that Sebastian had already seen through her disguise, the fake Lillian urged, "Come on. We're almost there."
Though Sebastian could fly, the sinister force surrounding the pit felt like it housed some terrifying presence. If he carelessly stepped over it, the consequences could be catastrophic.
"I dropped something back there. Come help me find it," Sebastian said.
The fake Lillian was furious. She asked, "What could be more important than finding Cassandra and the others?"
She tried to block the blow, but her injuries were too severe. With another sickening thud, she was sent crashing sideways, spitting out another mouthful of blood.
Sebastian gave her no respite. His figure blurred as he rushed toward her again, launching a punch from mid-air.
Even in her weakened state, the fake Lillian was formidable. She managed to block the strike and barely survived the deadly blow. Then, she flew toward the dark pit without hesitation.
"Energy slash!"
Of course, Sebastian wouldn't let her go.
From the sky, a ten-foot-long invisible sword energy came crashing down.
With a deafening boom, the fake Lillian was split in two, and the energy of the sword gouged a massive trench into the ground.
