With only two days left before they could leave and with the barrier still blocking any escape or communication, all they could do was wait for the sect to break the barrier and release them.

Sebastian chose to cultivate inside Chimes Tower because of the faster time flow. While two days would pass outside, inside the tower, they would have the equivalent of six days. It was more than enough time to make significant progress.
