Lin Yi, Ding Yi, and Wang Chong. When discussing the modern Huashan Sect, these three names were always mentioned. Yet now, the three of them stood motionless, as if frozen in place, and no one had any idea what was happening.
Beside them, Gona turned to the two Huashan Elders. "Elders, what's going on here?"
The two Elders didn't know what was happening either, but they understood one thing: if Lin Yi, Ding Yi, and Wang Chong remained standing there like statues, the Huashan Sect would become a laughingstock.
"Perhaps that man possesses some Evil Techniques," the Left Elder sighed. He took a sip of wine and added nonchalantly, "I initially had no plans to intervene, as this is a matter for the younger generation. But now, I have no choice but to act."
The Left Elder drew his sword and stepped forward.
Seeing his colleague make a move, the Right Elder chuckled. He looked at Gona, Watt, and the others at their table and said, "Everyone, please, eat and drink. Since my old colleague has stepped in, this matter is as good as done." With that said, he leisurely returned to enjoying the fine food on the table.
The Left Elder said nothing more and walked straight toward Wu Tian. His gaze held no Killing Intent, only sympathy. Had Wu Tian died at the hands of Lin Yi, Ding Yi, or Wang Chong, his death would have been quick and clean. To die by the Left Elder's sword, however, would be agonizing; the Elder was infamous for severing both of a victim's arms before delivering the final blow.
No one in the courtyard had expected a Huashan Sect Elder to personally intervene. But as the Left Elder approached Wu Tian, he suddenly froze in place, just like the others. A stunned silence fell over the courtyard as everyone stared in shock.
Gona looked at the Right Elder and demanded gravely, "What in the world is going on?"
The Right Elder froze, the food still in his mouth, too shocked to even swallow. Hearing Gona's question, he was just as baffled. You're asking me? Who the hell am I supposed to ask?
Had anyone looked closely, they would have seen cold sweat dripping from the foreheads of the Left Elder, Lin Yi, Ding Yi, and Wang Chong, but few noticed this detail. All four of them remained completely still.
Then, Wu Tian moved. He walked up to the Left Elder, who was now closest to him, and snatched the sword from his hand. The Elder didn't react. He wasn't being held by some mysterious force; he was simply paralyzed by a fear so profound that he couldn't move a muscle.
Wu Tian looked at the Left Elder, smiled faintly, and raised the sword. It seemed that in the next moment, the sword would fall and the Left Elder would die.
"You can't!" the Right Elder cried out. "He is the Left Elder of our Huashan Sect! We have the Arrow King! More masters will be joining our ranks soon! You..."
But before he could finish his threat, the Right Elder watched in astonishment as Wu Tian's sword fell.
The Left Elder's eyes widened in terror. He wanted to dodge, but fear rendered him motionless. As the sword descended, a line of blood appeared on his neck. He crumpled to the ground, dead.
The Right Elder never expected his opponent would actually dare to kill. "How... how could you?" he cried out.
Wu Tian didn't reply, instead continuing toward Wang Chong, Ding Yi, and Lin Yi.
If someone wants to kill me, I will kill them. How can there be a principle where others are allowed to kill me, but I am not allowed to kill them? Wu Tian considered the Right Elder's words the ramblings of an idiot, unworthy of a response.
Wang Chong and Ding Yi were filled with regret, so terrified they felt they might faint. Lin Yi, however, let out a desolate laugh. There was no sorrow in the sound, only an eerie strangeness.
"This can't be happening!" Cui Shanmai, Cui Shanlu, Cui Shanshui, and Cui Shanhe's other kinsmen of the same generation realized the situation had spiraled out of control. Someone from the Huashan Sect had died on the grounds of their Qinghe Cui Family. If the Arrow King became enraged, the entire Cui Family could face his wrath. They immediately stood up to intervene.
Cui Shanhe merely chuckled, ignoring his kinsmen. Though some were his half-brothers and others his cousins, the rivalry between brothers in a great clan was terrifying. True brotherly affection simply didn't exist in such families.
The little girl was displeased. She glared at Cui Shanshui and the others, sneering, "When the Huashan Sect was trying to kill my dad, where were you?"
Cui Shanshui and the others flushed with embarrassment. In their eyes, Wu Tian's life was merely that of a commoner—insignificant if lost. How could it possibly compare in importance to someone from the Huashan Sect? But they all knew such a thing could not be said aloud.
