Xavier shot Isabella a cold, sarcastic look. She was still trying to figure out what he was up to, completely caught off guard.
His calm expression felt like the eerie stillness before a storm, yet somehow everything seemed perfectly normal.
“I heard you’ve won several awards for your child psychology research?”
After speaking, Xavier shifted his gaze slightly toward Sander, who was also standing frozen in place.
“Yeah…”
“If I remember correctly, the kid’s been at that therapy center for two weeks now. Seems like it’s time the center let go of people who are all talk and no real results.”
Xavier didn’t curse once, but every word landed like a slap, stripping Sander of his dignity.
Then he glanced back at Isabella, held the little boy tighter in his arms, and walked off without looking back.
Sander didn’t react in time and moved to follow, but Isabella stopped him.
“Sander, let’s leave things here. It’s better if we don’t stay in touch anymore. I can handle Jason’s situation on my own.”
Now that Jason had started speaking, there was no real need to keep taking him to the therapy center.
Besides, Sander’s feelings for her had clearly moved beyond professional boundaries, and Isabella figured this was the right moment to finally draw a clear line between them/
As for how to deal with Xavier… that was something she’d handle alone.
With that, Isabella quickly followed after Xavier.
Xavier didn’t say much. Jacob opened the car door for them, and Isabella tried to take Jason from him, but the little one clung tightly to Xavier the whole time, refusing to let go.
Watching the car disappear into the distance, Sander slowly stepped forward.
The night was deep, and his handsome features gradually faded into the shadows.
In a modest apartment, Rachel was reading a storybook to Zoe in the bedroom. Zoe’s eyes were closed, her breathing steady and calm.
After a while, Rachel stopped reading. Seeing the child was asleep, she gently pulled the blanket up over

Chapter 131 First Words
Just as Rachel stepped out of the bedroom and closed the door behind her, she heard the lock click- someone was coming in.
It was late, and she already had a pretty good idea who it was.
“Keep your voice down. She just fell asleep.”
Rachel met him at the door, took his coat, and immediately caught a strong whiff of alcohol.
The man walked straight to the couch and slumped onto it.
“Have you been drinking?” Rachel frowned as she hung the coat by the window, giving it a light mist of fabric spray.
She returned to the couch and handed him a glass of water.
He smiled faintly, propped himself up, and took off his glasses.
Moonlight from the window fell across his face, and in the shifting light, his usual gentle demeanor faded, replaced by a weary, late–night exhaustion.
He took a few sips of water and tugged at his already loosened collar.
Seeing that, Rachel asked again, “It’s so late. Did you need something?”
“What, I can’t just come see you without a reason?”
His tone turned teasing as he grabbed Rachel’s arm and pulled her toward him.
“We used to stay up talking all the time, remember?”
Rachel tried to pull away, but her movements were slight, almost hesitant.
“Sander! You’ll wake her up.”
When Rachel said his name, Sander gave a faint smile.
He loosened his grip, and Rachel took the chance to slip out of his hold.
“If you need to talk, let’s go out. There’s a diner nearby that’s open late.”
Rachel started changing her clothes, but Sander stopped her.
“Don’t bother. I’ll just sit for a while, then head out.”
