Chapter 137 Learning to Be Good

When Isabella saw how the little boy–who had been crying inconsolably just moments earlier -instantly settled down at Xavier’s words, she felt a pang of surprise mixed with hurt.
Xavier didn’t strike her as the type who knew how to comfort a child, yet here he was, more effective than she was–his own mother. And all it took was one simple sentence.
Maybe Sander was right. Jason needed a father–one he actually liked.
But why did it have to be Xavier, of all people?
“Don’t worry about replacing the shirt. Just pick out a nicer one for me so I can change.”
Xavier walked over to where Isabella stood, tilted his head slightly, and spoke close to her ear. His tone was mild, but it still carried that familiar CEO–like edge, as though he were addressing his personal assistant.
Isabella didn’t feel she could refuse. She avoided his gaze and replied quietly, “Fine.”
“Go ahead, then.”
With that, Xavier reached for her hand. She flinched, half expecting him to pull her along like he had the day before. Instead, he simply gave her palm a light, brief squeeze before letting go.
It wasn’t until after Xavier had walked away that Isabella understood–he’d held back because her son was watching. She hadn’t expected him to be so considerate around a child.
Ten minutes later, Isabella made her way alone to Xavier’s dressing room.
The spacious area was lined with sleek glass cabinets displaying rows of tailored pieces. But Xavier’s taste ran remarkably consistent–at a glance, most items looked nearly identical. Was there even much choosing to do?
She was still wondering when Xavier stepped out from behind one of the drawn curtains, already shirtless.
His fitted trousers sat low on his waist, leaving his upper body exposed–pale, well–defined, and toned…
Staring any longer felt dangerous.
She turned her face away quickly. “Why are you already undressed?”

“Do you usually change clothes with them on?”
Xavier’s cool voice held a trace of amusement.

Isabella immediately regretted speaking. Not only was the question awkward, but it made her sound like her thoughts had wandered somewhere they shouldn’t have.
“Shirts are in the third cabinet on your left.”
After a few seconds of silence, Xavier spoke again, his tone even and matter–of–fact, as though giving routine instructions.
“I know.”
Isabella replied without thinking, then moved to open the cabinet right away.
The layout of the dressing room hadn’t changed one bit–she remembered it well. Back when Xavier had back–to–back meetings, she used to put together full outfits for him here. Though this was the first time she’d done so with him standing right there.
Carefully, she browsed the selection of shirts. It didn’t take long, but in the quiet room, a subtle tension began to build. Her heartbeat picked up.
Flashes from the previous night crossed her mind. A warm flush spread through her; the harder she tried to push the memories away, the more persistent they became…
“This one.”
Hearing footsteps approaching from behind, Isabella grabbed a shirt from the rack and stood up abruptly.
Xavier’s tall, sculpted frame was now almost fully on display before her.
“Are you feeling warm?”
Xavier studied the woman in front of him as he took the shirt, his voice low.
Her face was flushed, noticeably redder than usual.
“No, I’m fine,” Isabella answered quickly, trying to sound composed, then corrected herself. “Actually, yes–a little warm. I’ll step out first.”
“Wait.”
Xavier stopped her again.

Before she could turn away, Isabella felt the heat of his presence close behind her. Instinctively, she spun around and brought her hands up to his chest-
Was he trying to make a move on her again?
Then came a muffled sound, and their bodies tangled as they fell hard onto the floor.
