Chapter 182 Checking Out
“Mrs. Moore…” Jacob greeted Isabella as soon as she stepped into the room.
“Where is he?”
“Mr. Moore has already been discharged,” Jacob replied.

Earlier that morning, after returning from seeing Noah, Jacob had received instructions from Xavier to complete the discharge paperwork.
His answer took Isabella completely by surprise.
Xavier’s injuries were serious–he was supposed to remain hospitalized for further recovery. On top of that, he had coughed up blood just hours before. There was no way to know whether something else might be wrong; he really should have stayed for a full evaluation.
Isabella immediately tried calling Xavier, but unsurprisingly, the call went straight to voicemail.
Just then, Harry entered the room carrying a large paper bag filled with medications.
Clearly, he already knew Xavier had checked himself out.
“Isabella, you’re still here,” Harry said, sounding somewhat surprised.
Given how close they seemed that morning, he had expected Xavier to leave with her.
“Dr. Ashford, shouldn’t Xavier still be in the hospital?”
Isabella couldn’t quite keep her composure. Her tone came out sharper than she intended, almost like an
accusation.
“There is still a risk of infection, so staying would indeed be safer,” Harry replied calmly. “But try not to worry too much. The wound itself isn’t large. As long as he changes the dressings regularly and monitors for any signs of trouble…”
“But he coughed up blood today. He’s in no condition to leave. I know he’s stubborn, but you don’t always have to give in to him, do you?”
Isabella cut him off mid–sentence. Harry stiffened slightly, a look of discomfort crossing his face.
It was true–once Xavier made up his mind, there wasn’t much anyone, including Harry, could do to change it.
Realizing her tone had been out of line, worried.”
bella softened her voice. “I’m sorry, Dr. Ashford. I’m just really
“I understand. But for what it’s worth, Xavier is worried about you, too.”
Harry paused and lifted the bag of medications so she could see.

“Most of these are actually prescriptions Xavier asked me to prepare for you. Your injuries mainly require rest and at–home care. I think… maybe he wanted to go home with you.”
After Harry finished speaking, Isabella felt a swirl of emotions tighten in her chest.
Did he really want to go home with her? Or was he just avoiding her?
She thanked Harry quietly and didn’t press further.
Jacob finished gathering Xavier’s belongings and soon drove Isabella back home.
Xavier had arranged for security to escort them, ensuring Isabella’s safety along the way,
During the ride, Isabella found her thoughts drifting back to Sander.
“Jacob, did Sander come by to see you today?” she asked abruptly.
“Yes, he stopped by looking for Mr. Moore, but Mr. Moore wasn’t at the office,” Jacob answered.
That morning, Sander had shown up wanting to discuss some business matters related to the Whitman family.
But Xavier had made it clear he didn’t want to meet with anyone from the Whitmans, whether at the office or elsewhere.
So Jacob had politely declined and ended the conversation.
“Is everything alright, Mrs. Moore?”
Jacob glanced into the rearview mirror and noticed the troubled look on Isabella’s face.
Moore Group had been aggressively pursuing the Whitman family’s business interests lately. Since her question touched on a sensitive subject, Jacob couldn’t help feeling uneasy.
“No, just wondering,” Isabella said, shaking her head lightly.
Sander hadn’t lied to her–maybe she was overthinking things.
He had helped her avoid Xavier’s inquiries at the therapy center, and then Rachel showed up right afterward.
Rachel had a medical background and just happened to be a parent at the same center…
The more Isabella thought about it, the more the pieces seemed too coincidental.
Plus, Rachel was the reason Noah had become so critically ill. Before this, Rachel had only ever been after money. Why would she suddenly target Noah like this?‘
Maybe finding Rachel was the only way to figure out what was really going on.

When Isabella arrived home, the house felt unusually quiet.
The housekeepers who usually greeted her at the door were nowhere to be seen.
She opened the entryway closet and noticed Xavier’s slippers were gone–a small relief.
At least he had enough sense to come home and rest.
Isabella glanced up toward the closed doors of the study and the master bedroom on the second floor. After hesitating for a moment, she turned toward her own room.
She pulled out her phone, taking a second to collect herself.
Around this time, Jason would have just finished lunch and be settling down for his afternoon nap.
But as Isabella approached her door, she found all the housekeepers clustered outside it.
The door was slightly ajar, and they were huddled together, peeking into the room.
“Is everything okay?”
The sound of Isabella’s voice startled them so much they nearly stumbled into the room.
Isabella quickly reached out to steady the one at the front, but their commotion had already drawn attention from inside.
“Mrs. Moore!”
The housekeepers greeted her in unison, but before they could say anything else, their eyes fell on her injured arm.
“Mrs. Moore, what happened to your arm?”
“Oh my goodness, your hand!”
“That looks serious…”
Isabella instinctively pulled her arm closer. The housekeepers all looked genuinely distressed, their expressions filled with concern.
A sudden warmth spread through Isabella’s chest. Even her own parents had never shown this kind of worry for her.
“It’s nothing, really. Just a minor injury. It’ll heal in a few days. Please don’t worry,” she said gently, offering them a reassuring smile.
