Chapter 97 Blood on the Line
“Then I’m totally up for cooperating with the investigation!” Isabella declared.
“Hold your horses, honey. I ain’t letting my wife get grilled like a steak,” Xavier interjected, cutting Isabella off.
To Linda, their little exchange seemed more like a cute, flirty back–and–forth. She never thought that even with Noah in a tight spot, Xavier would still be so quick on the draw to protect Isabella.
When Linda first got to the hospital room, she’d filled Xavier in on the situation. As soon as he got wind that Isabella might be mixed up in it, he told them to call it an accident in public. It was like he was scared she’d catch even the tiniest bit of heat.
While they were going back and forth, the operating room door swung open, and Harry stepped out. He told a nurse to head to the blood bank to get some blood.
That’s when Xavier finally let go of Isabella. “How’s he doing?” he asked.
‘He’s gonna be okay. The cut on his hand ain’t too deep,” Harry said, letting out a sigh of relief. But Noah had lost a lot of blood, and Harry wasn’t sure if the blood bank had enough to go around.
Still, with Isabella right there, bringing it up would basically be asking her to roll up her sleeve and donate.
‘Keep this on the down–low,” Xavier said calmly to Harry.
Harry nodded. “You got it.”
sabella was fuming inside. Back in the day, Xavier had cared so much about Noah’s life that he’d treated her like a human blood bank. But now, with Noah almost biting the dust, he wasn’t even pushing to find out what happened?
n the end, he still didn’t trust her. After all, she was Xavier’s wife. If it got out that his wife was suspected of trying to off his little brother, not only would Moore Group take a nosedive, but the Moore family’s and Xavier’s reputations would be in the toilet too.
sabella noticed the young caregiver standing behind Linda. Linda had been trying to calm her down every now and then, and the caregiver looked like a deer in the headlights, too nervous to say a word. She was clutching a bag so tight, her knuckles were white.
sabella was pretty sure the caregiver knew something. She stepped forward, making a beeline for the caregiver, but Linda stepped n her way.
“Isabella, what the heck are you doing?” Linda asked.
“I wanna ask her some questions. She’s Noah’s caregiver,” Isabella said, giving Linda a challenging look Linda’s face went a little pale
Linda tried to brush it off. “She knows the same stuff I do. If you got questions, ask me.”
“I can smell blood on that bag she’s holding,” Isabella said, raising her voice so Xavier would hear
Just then, Jacob rushed in. He gave a quick nod to Isabella and the others, then leaned in to whisper something in Xavier sear
“Bring that bag here,” Xavier said, stepping over to Isabella’s side and speaking to the caregiver in a cold voke
The caregiver started shaking and took a step back.

Linda jumped in “Xavier, she’s really shaken up Don’t put the poor girl through the wringer
Isabella scoffed. “Is this putting her through the wringer? This is an investigation. If there’s a weapon in that bag, it could lead us to
the real bad guy
“Jacob” Xavier backed Jacob immediately stepped forward and snatched the bag from the caregiver’s arms
Linda didn’t stop him. Instead, she pulled the caregiver into a hug, playing the part of the caring sister soothing a scared vid But her eyes never left Jacob.
Jacob dumped the contents of the bag onto a nearby chair. There was nothing but tissues, makeup, a wallet, and keys No sign of anything suspicious.
Isabel a’s face fell. If there was nothing in the bag, why was the caregiver so nervous?
Jacob showed the bag to Xavier. Xavier took a cold look and told Jacob to put everything back and give it back to the caregiver.
The caregiver didn’t take it. Linda took it for her.
“Isabella, she’s just a caregiver. She wouldn’t do anything to hurt Noah. We’re all here to help him get better. We just want him to pull through,” Linda said.
What she was really saying was that Isabella was the odd one out. Everyone knew she wanted a divorce from Xavier.
If she couldn’t get the divorce and decided to take it out on Noah to get back at Xavier, it made perfect sense. Linda’s soft words made her sound like an innocent, kind–hearted angel.
“Dr. Ashford! The blood bank’s running low!” a nurse who’d just come out of the operating room reported to Harry.
