Norah’s Pov
Angelina stormed out, pissed off because of me.

I turned back to Lucien. The hunger in his eyes was even sharper now, like he wanted to eat me alive.
“Now… no more interruptions.”
He pushed me back onto the messy sheets, his hot mouth crashing down on mine again with a force that would not be denied.
“Lucien, wait…”
But his kiss stole my breath. My palms pressed against his hard chest, trying to claw back some sanity.
“Can’t wait,” he growled against my lips. His hands were already working skillfully at the buttons of my shirt, then slid inside.
The moment our skin touched, we both let out a low, hungry groan.
Three years of pent–up longing exploded between us like a volcano.
I stopped fighting. I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him back just as hard.
Just as he was about to push inside—
Buzz- Buzz-
My phone, lying on the nightstand, started vibrating like crazy.
Lucien froze mid–motion. His face twisted with pure annoyance.
Without thinking, he reached to shut it off.
“Don’t!” I snapped back to reality, grabbing his wrist.
He looked up, eyes still dark with desire, burning with frustration at being stopped again.
I ignored him and picked up the phone. When I saw the name on the screen, my stomach dropped.
Katarina.
She never called at this hour unless it was serious.
My head cleared instantly.
“I have to take this,” I said, pushing against his shoulders.
“No,” he muttered, still pinning me down, dropping kisses along my jaw. His voice was hoarse and impatient. “Whatever it is can wait until we’re done,”

“Lucien, stop,” I said firmly, turning my face away. “It’s Katarina. It’s important.”
He was still shirtless, his muscular frame tempting in the sunlight.

He didn’t move, just held me tighter, clearly planning to wait until I finished the call quickly so we could
resume.
Resigned, I answered the phone while still trapped in his embrace.
“Norah?”
The moment she spoke, Lucien’s hot chest pressed flush against my back.
He lowered his head, kissing the nape of my neck, then started nipping lightly, sending shivers through me.
“I’m here,” I said, clearing my throat, trying to sound normal.
“Tsk, listening to you sound so breathless… Things getting intense over there? Seems Mr. Constantine’s still full of energy,” Katarina teased, her tone knowing and playful.
My face flamed. I twisted my head to glare at the smug man behind me.
“Get to the point.”
“Alright, alright, sorry to interrupt your fun.”
Katarina’s voice turned serious. “Remember that procurement officer? I found a lead.”
“That so–called officer never went to Dubai. We were all fooled. He’s been in Paris the whole time. And, just three days ago, he rented a warehouse in the suburbs using a fake ID.”
Paris?
I knew immediately this wasn’t just some simple business scam.
This was a planned trap targeting me.
And I’d already walked right into the enemy’s home turf.
Lucien had heard everything. The lazy desire vanished from his face, replaced by cold alertness,
“Katarina, send me the address. I’m on my way,” I said, sitting up immediately.
“Norah…” Lucien tried to pull me back into his arms.
“Lucien, let go,” I said, removing his hand from my waist,
“Now is not the time for this,” I said, looking at him calmily but firmly.
His eyes held a mix of desire, displeasure, and frustration.
“Your trouble… I can handle it with one call,” he said, his tone reverting to its usual commanding arrogance.
I knew he could.

“No. This is my fight.” Just like I’d refused Mateo, I refused him now.

I needed him, and everyone else, to understand that Norah Hawthorne wasn’t some fragile bird needing to hide under a man’s wing anymore.
My empire, I would defend it myself.
Lucien stared at me for a long moment.
Finally, he gave in, though clearly unhappy.
“Fine,” he bit out the word.
His assistant drove us to the Thornbird studio.
The atmosphere in the car was heavily tense the whole way.
Lucien sat silently beside me, just holding my left hand tightly.
When I pushed open the office door, Irina and Katarina were waiting inside.
Seeing Lucien behind me, their expressions instantly cooled, their eyes filled with clear hostility.
“What is he doing here?” Irina asked, her tone sharp and unwelcoming, arms crossed.
Lucien ignored her, walking over to the sofa and sitting down as if he owned the place.
I walked to the desk. “Katarina, put the warehouse address and all the info on that guy up on the big screen.”
“Alright.”
“This warehouse is in a remote area. No surveillance nearby. The other party clearly chose this spot to avoid leaving traces.”
“The fact he’s still in Paris means his mission isn’t complete. He’ll make another move.”
“Right now, we’re on the defensive. We can only wait for his next move.”
I looked at the big screen, voicing my analysis.
My right hand, which I’d been subconsciously keeping in my jacket pocket, came out.
Thick bandages wrapped my palm and the back of my hand, leaving only a few fingers exposed.
“Norah, your hand…” Irina’s voice cut through the room;
“How did you get hurt again?” Katarina also frowned with concern.
Before I could speak, Irina had already marched over to stand right in front of Lucien.
“Mr. Constantine. Three years ago, you failed to protect her, almost ruined her hand. Now, the moment

she’s back, she’s injured again,” her voice vibrated with barely contained anger.
“Is this how you protect your woman?”
