Norah’s POV

“Oh? Well, look who this is–if it isn’t the lingerie queen who disappeared for three years.”
A sharp female voice cut through the elegant string music.
Camille Moreau stepped forward with several socialites, blocking my path.
“Weren’t you the one shouting about independence and freedom back then? So now coming back to pester a married man–that’s your independence and freedom? Norah, Lucien is already married. Do you really think you’re still the woman he held at the center of his heart?”
Suppressed chuckles rose around us. Everyone stared at me with the eyes of people watching a show.
“Camille, don’t say it like that,” another woman added mockingly. “She does have skills. To make Mr. Constantine still unable to forget her after marriage–that kind of bedroom technique is something we could never learn.”
I looked at the faces in front of me, twisted by jealousy, and felt nothing but cold inside.
“Are you done?” I asked calmly.
“What–dare to do it but won’t admit it?” Camille was enraged by my composure, her voice rising sharply. “What identity are you standing here with now? You’re nothing but Lucien’s shameful underground mistress. Do us a favor and stay far away. You’ve polluted the air here enough already.”
“Camille, three years have passed and you’re still this shallow. Looks like you’ve already forgotten what I said three years ago. Public smearing only makes me stronger, and your clumsy rumor–mongering does nothing except prove your incompetence and jealousy.”
“You hired online trolls and tried to blacklist me–what was the result? I became the darling of haute couture, while you can still only come to these banquets to look for a sense of existence.”
“Camille, three years ago he didn’t want you. Three years later, it’s still the same.”
I watched her face turn deathly pale, the chill in my eyes deepening.
“If you’re really that curious about my identity, then instead of yelling here like a shrew, why don’t you go ask Lucien yourself–assuming he can still remember what your face is called among all the people he’s blocked.”
“You bitch!” Camille screamed furiously, grabbing a wine glass beside her and throwing it

toward my face.
“What do you think you’re doing to my woman?”
Lucien’s icy voice sounded from behind me.
He grabbed Camille’s wrist and twisted hard. The glass slipped from her hand, fell to the ground, and shattered.
All eyes turned toward us, followed by an eruption of hushed whispers.
“See? I told you–she climbed up like this.”
“Mr. Constantine’s possessiveness is still that strong… This Norah really is favored.”
Their eyes were filled with jealousy, contempt, and morbid curiosity.
Lucien flung Camille aside. She staggered back, her face drained of color.
He didn’t spare her another glance and turned to me. “Are you alright?”
His hand reached out, trying to check me.
“Don’t touch me.” I sidestepped.
“Norah, I’m helping you.” His hand froze in midair.
Finished:
“Helping me?” I asked coldly. “Helping me announce to all of Paris that I can’t live without you?”
I didn’t look at him again and turned toward the exit.
He chased after me, grabbed me, and dragged me into the car.
“Why didn’t you let me handle it? I have plenty of ways to make her shut up!” he growled.
I looked up at him, my eyes dead. “Handle it? With your high–and–mighty power? Lucien, the more you protect me, the more they think I’m nothing but a toy that can only survive by clinging to you.”
“What exactly do you want me to do?!” He slammed his fist into the steering wheel, losing control. “I chased those trash people away–I just want you back!”
“Back to be your mistress? Watching you show affection with Amélie?” I took out my phone, opened my email, and shoved the screen in front of him.
“Lucien, since you’re so eager to handle things, why don’t you handle these first?”
