Chapter 161
Norah’s Pov
My lips moved, but no sound came out.

Finished:
The memories I had buried deep–soaked in blood and despair–surged forward all at once.
Amélie’s face, twisted with jealousy. The cold glint of the knife. The searing pain as the blade piercedmy palm.
“It was Amélie…” The words finally broke through. “On the wedding day… in the dressing room. She hugged me from behind… and drugged me.”
I lifted my tear–filled eyes to Lucien’s frozen expression and went on. “When I woke up… I was tied to a wheelchair, a veil over my face. I was pushed into the wedding. I saw you, Lucien. In your white tuxedo, standing at the end of the red carpet. I saw her walking toward you, arm–in- arm with her father…”
“No, Norah, that was-” Lucien tried to cut in, his voice urgent.
I raised my left hand and pressed it against his lips.
“Hear me out. I watched you take her hand from her father’s. I saw you standing beside her in front of the priest. I heard you say ‘I do.”
“Lucien, I was right there… watching you pick up that ring… and slide it onto her finger.”
“Then I was wheeled into a room. She came to me, wearing the wedding dress I designed with my own hands, and told me you belonged to her forever.”
“She… she picked up a knife…” My voice began to shake. My right hand started twitching uncontrollably.
Lucien quickly steadied my arm, his fingers gently massagingmy tense muscles.
I didn’t stop him. “She said she was going to destroy what I was most proud of. That I’d never sketch again… never hold a pencil.”
“She drove the knife… deep into my palm. The doctor said the nerves and tendons were severed. This hand… would never hold a pen for long again.”
A designer’s life is in her hands.
And my career… was handed a death sentence that day–at what should have been the wedding of the century.

Lucien took a step back. He stared at my bandaged hand, disbelief and horror washing over his face. The anger and madness in his eyes faded, replaced by bottomless regret.
He sank to one knee in front of me.
“I’m sorry…”
That always–arrogant face was now filled with vulnerability and self–hatred.
He leaned his forehead gently against my knee.
“I’m sorry, Norah. I shouldn’t have hidden my plans from you. I shouldn’t have been so arrogant, thinking I could control everything. I gave her the chance to hurt you.”
“I thought I was protecting you. I thought keeping you in the dark would keep you safe. I’m a bastard… a self–righteous fool…‘

This man, proud to his core, the emperor of a vast commercial empire… was kneeling before me, confessing again and again.
I knew he meant it. This was no performance.
But what good was regret now?
Just then, the infirmary door opened. The yacht’s security personnel dragged in several half- beaten men.
“Mr. Constantine, how should we deal with these individuals?”
Seeing them, I instinctively shrank back into Lucien’s embrace.
“Don’t be afraid,” he whispered, then looked up.
“Patch them up–just enough. Then call the police and the press. I want what they did tonight to be front–page news tomorrow.”
With that, he lifted me into his arms, stood, and ignored the men’s pleading.
He carried me toward the helicopter pad on the yacht’s top deck.
“Back to the estate,” he said calmly once we were inside.
I curled against his chest, watching the yacht shrink below us. It reminded me of another flight, three years ago, from a yacht back to Paris.
I had bet Mateo that Lucien, under the influence of that potent “truth serum,” would keep his

We fought side by side and won.
On that flight, I was the one helping him.
And after that… I got Leo and Luna. The two brightest stars in

We trusted each other completely back then.
But when did the cracks begin to show?
Back at the estate, he carried me straight to the master bedroom on the second floor.
I looked down at the torn gown, stained with other men’s dirty blood, and began to tremble violently. Nausea churned in my stomach.
Lucien sensed my state. He carried me into the bathroom.
Warm water soon filled the tub.
He carefully unfastened the ruined dress and lowered me into the water.
I was like a soulless doll, letting him move me as he wished.
He didn’t even bother taking off his own clothes. He stepped directly into the tub fully dressed.
He knelt behind me, picked up a bath sponge, and began gently washing my body.
