Revenge amnesia upgraded to his brother novel Chapter 46

Chapter 46

Lucien’s POV

I ran like a madman through the fucking streets.

My heart hammered against my ribs like it wanted to break free.

The city lights blurred into streaks of red and white.

I didn’t stop until I reached Damian’s apartment building.

I was gasping for air, sweat dripping down my neck.

My hand froze midknock, hovering over the fucking door.

Damian, step back!Norah’s voice cut through the wood, sharp and clear.

She was awake. Alive.

Relief hit me like a punch to the gut, followed by a fresh wave of anger.

I dropped my hand and pressed my ear against the door like a desperate stalker.

I didn’t give a shit if anyone saw me.

Norah, I was just getting you a blanket,Damian’s voice was soft, pleading. Pathetic. You were shivering. I didn’t want you to be cold.

I don’t need it. Go back to your room.”

But-He sounded lost, like a kicked dog. Weak.

Go back. Now.

Silence.

He sighed after a painful pause. Fine. I was just trying to help.”

I know, her voice softened, but only a little. But it’s two in the morning. You need to rest.

You too. Goodnight, Norah.

Footsteps retreated. A door clicked shut.

I slumped against the wall, sliding down to the dirty fucking floor.

The concrete was cold against my legs.

She’d stood her ground. She hadn’t let him in.

The tightness in my chest cased, but something heavier took its placehelplessness. Pure fucking agony.

Because no matter how she felt about him, she was still in his apartment, paying off that damn debt.

And I was stuck outside, useless. Useless and raging.

The night dragged on.

I didn’t sleep. I sat on that filthy floor, listening to every sound from inside.

Nothing. Just silence.

I watched the sky turn from black to gray through the hallway window.

My body ached. My mind raced.

I was acting like a obsessed fucking stalker. But I couldn’t leave her.

When the sun finally rose, I dragged myself back to my car.

My legs were numb. My eyes burned.

I slid into the driver’s seat and kept watching the door.

Like a ghost. A lovesick, pathetic ghost.

At eight sharp, the apartment door opened.

Norah stepped out. Still wearing yesterday’s clothes. Rumpled and tired.

Her hair was a mess. Dark shadows hung under her eyes like bruises.

She looked exhausted. Beautiful. Mine.

She stopped dead, as if she’d sensed me.

Her gaze lifted and locked directly onto mine through the car window.

She didn’t look surprised. Just tired. Resigned.

She froze for a second, then turned and walked to the curb to hail a cab.

I pulled up beside her, rolling down the window. Norah, let me drive you.”

No.

Norah-

She turned, her calmness sharp as broken glass. What are you doing here, Lucien?

II needed to know you were safe.”

So

you spent the whole night outside his door?

Yes,I said, my voice rough. I couldn’t leave you alone with him.”

A bitter smile touched her lips. Isn’t that ironic? You don’t trust me at Damian’sbut do even know why I’m here?

Because he saved you.”

Exactly. Her voice was heavy, exhausted. He saved me. And youwhere were you?

I didn’t know about the accident! If I had-

But you didn’t,” she cut me off, clean and final. Because you were with Katarina.”

That’s not whyI was trying to find answers!

you

I know. Her tone shifted, turning strangely gentle. It threw me. I know you and Katarina were looking into your mother’s case. I believe you, Lucien.

I stared, stunned. Youbelieve me?

She nodded. I’ve had all night to think. You lied, but I know you had your reasons. And I know how Katarina operates.

Then why-

Because I need time,” she said quietly. Lucien, trust isn’t something that comes back just because you say I believe you.You lied. That happened. I need space to figure out what that means for us.

But Damian-

He saved my life. That’s a fact. Her eyes held mine, unflinching. And right now, that debtgives me a chance to get close to him.”

A chance? Norah, have you lost your mind? He hurt you! And Eleanor’s still out thereit’s not safe!

Dangerous, she said calmly, also means closer to the truth. Damian has amnesia, Lucien. He trusts me completely now. This might be our only shot at getting evidence against Eleanor.

No.I grabbed her wrist. I’m not letting you do this. We’ll find another way. A safer way.

She looked at me with something close to pity. This is my choice, Lucien. If you don’t like it, fine. You do it your way, I’ll do it mine. Let’s see who brings them down first.

She pulled her wrist from my grip. Her skin was warm. I already missed it.

She turned away, hailed a taxi, got in, and shut the door without a backward glance.

I watched the cab disappear around the corner.

My hands clenched on the steering wheel until my knuckles turned white.

She was using herself as fucking bait.

And there was nothing I could do to stop her.

I slammed my palm against the dashboard. Again. Again.

The pain felt good.

It was the only thing that felt real.

I was losing her.

And I had no one to blame but myself.
