The Goodbye That Never Reached You and My Life Chasing 94
Chapter 94
Norah’s POV
“Someone! Help!”
:
A scream ripped through the hallway. Sharp. Ugly.
“Lucien has killed someone!”
It was Eleanor’s voice. Coming from the study.
Then a heavy thud. Something solid hitting the floor. Hard.
The sound of shattering glass followed.
Crisp. Final.
My heart froze.
A trap.
Just like I fucking knew it would be.
I didn’t think. I ran. Fast.
My heels slapped against the marble floor.

The other guests stood stunned for a second. Then they woke up. Their faces twisted with horror. And a sick curiosity. They followed me. A pack of wolves smelling blood.
The study door stood wide open.
I stepped inside. The scene hit me like a punch.
Mr. Constantine sat slumped in his wheelchair. A broken doll.
His head lolled to the side. A nasty gash on his forehead oozed dark blood. It stained his grey hair. Soaked into his white suit.
At his feet lay a heavy brass clock. Fallen. Its sharp corner was smeared with fresh red.
Lucien was gone. Vanished.
I looked up. The French windows behind the bookshelf were shattered. Glass everywhere.

Chapter 94
Cold wind blew in. Rain with it. The curtains whipped around. Wild.
Eleanor slumped on the floor. Sobbing. Hysterical. Her hair was a mess.
“Lucien… he lost his mind… He argued with his father… then he grabbed the clock… and smashed him…”
Her cries were too loud. Too perfect. Rehearsed.
Then the media swarm hit. Cameras flashing. Lights blinding.
The police arrived right after. Fast. Too fast.

The room filled with noise. Sirens wailed. Voices shouted. This fancy party turned into a crime scene. Live. Global.
A butler I’d never seen before spoke to the cops. Shaking.
“I was in the garden… I heard shouting… the young master yelled ‘I’ll kill you!… then a crash…”
His words sounded smooth. Practiced.
Eleanor’s society friends crowded around the police. Chattering.
“Yes, we all heard it! Mr. Constantine called him a bastard!”
“Lucien’s face turned dark! Terrifying!”
They piled on. Nailing the story shut. Lucien did it. He murdered his father.
My hands turned to ice. My feet went numb.
I remembered that clock. Lucien held it at the nursing home. Months ago.
Eleanor had been setting this up for a long time. Every piece carefully placed.
The police bagged the clock. An evidence bag. Blood and all.
Everyone waited. Tense. Silent.
Then my phone lit up. Silent. In my purse.
I glanced down. One word on the screen:
“Wait.”
Lucien.

He was alive. Safe.
I hid my relief. Kept my face a mask of shock and fear.
The lead cop, Inspector Delacour, got a message.
His face turned grim. He walked to Eleanor.
“Madam, we found clear fingerprints on the weapon.”
Eleanor looked up, fake tears in her eyes. “Are they… Lucien’s?”
The inspector nodded. Heavy. Sure.
He turned to the cameras. Lights flashed in his face.
“After preliminary analysis, the prints match Lucien Constantine’s records. No other prints were found. He is now wanted for the murder of his father. Considered armed and dangerous. A city–wide manhunt begins now.”
Alarms blared through the city. Loud. Shrieking.
News alerts flashed on every screen. Lucien’s face. Big. “WANTED” in bold red under it.
My heart pounded with the sirens. Lost in the noise.
The room erupted into chaos. Reporters shoved microphones toward the inspector. Guests whispered loudly, some filming on their phones. The lights from the cameras made everything look harsh and unreal.
I stood frozen in the middle of it all. My mind raced. Lucien was out there somewhere. Alone. Hunted.
I remembered his touch just hours earlier. The way his hand felt on mine. The warmth. Now he was running for his life.
Eleanor continued her performance. She leaned on one of her friends, sobbing dramatically. But I saw the quick glance she threw my way. Triumphant. Cold.
She thought she had won. She thought she had taken everything from us.
The inspector started barking orders. Officers spread out through the mansion. More sirens approached outside. The manhunt was growing.
I had to do something. I had to help Lucien. But how?

I looked down at my phone again. That one word gave me hope.
Wait.
He had a plan. He must have.
I needed to trust him. But the waiting was killing me.

Rain beat harder against the broken windows. The wind howled through the study. It felt like the whole city was crying.
Mr. Constantine’s body still sat in the wheelchair. Forgotten in the chaos. The police had covered him with a sheet, but one of his hands hung out. Pale. Lifeless.
Eleanor’s friends surrounded her, creating a wall of designer dresses and judgmental looks. They whispered to each other, shooting glances in my direction. I was the outsider. The one who had brought this trouble to their perfect world.
A young officer approached me. “Miss, I need to ask you some questions.”
His voice was polite but firm. This was just beginning. The investigation would focus on me now. They would want to know everything about Lucien. About us.
I took a deep breath. I had to be strong. For Lucien. For us.
The alarm continued to scream. Each siren felt like a nail in my heart. Somewhere out there, the man I loved was running for his life. And all I could do was wait.
