Her curiosity piqued, she pressed on, “What kind of business is he in?”
She had heard that Ryan used to be a formidable figure. Even without the Lancaster family, he should be able to make a comeback quickly, right?
Just as she was thinking this, she heard Logan say, “He’s opening a supermarket.”
Anastasia paused. “Planning to start a chain?”
Logan replied, “…No, just one.”
Anastasia was struck speechless, a look of disbelief on her face as she turned to Logan.
Was he serious?
Even if Ryan couldn't use the Lancaster family's resources anymore, he still had his own network of friends and contacts built over the years. Starting over should be a piece of cake. How had he fallen to the point of opening a single supermarket?
A strange feeling crept into Anastasia’s mind.
It was as if Ryan was intentionally letting himself fail.
But he still had Susan and her children to support. He loved Susan so much; could he really bear to let her live a hard life?
After returning, Anastasia quietly kept an eye on the situation at the hospital. She was relieved to learn that with Ryan taking charge, Carter’s condition had stabilized, and he was now able to go home.
Thinking about how Lennon and Crystal had fallen so low as to swindle money from the Lancaster family, she grew curious and asked Logan to find out more about what had happened to them after they were kicked out.
“They’re not doing well,” Logan said. “If they could adapt to a normal life, it would be fine. But after being pampered by the Lancaster family for so many years, it's not easy to go back to how things were.”
Susan now looked haggard, her hands were rough, and her face was drawn. She had secretly sold off all the luxury goods Ryan had bought for her over the years, but the family’s expenses still exceeded their income.
