Harrison's features softened, his eyes filled with adoration and warmth.
After spending a few days together, Anastasia and Carter found that familiar online rapport, and they both opened up to each other.
"What do you usually do at home?" Anastasia asked.
"Not much," Carter said, shaking his head. "I go to school once in a while. Sometimes I read, but most of the time, I don't have much to do."
Anastasia's eyes lit up, and she leaned closer. "Would you be interested in working at the Lancaster Group?"
Carter froze.
After a moment of silence, he shook his head. "That wouldn't be appropriate."
"Why not?"
He looked up at her and gave a faint smile. "I'm an illegitimate son. An illegitimate son has no right to enter the Lancaster Group."
From his words, Anastasia could tell that he had some longing for the Lancaster Group; it wasn't that he didn't want to go.
She immediately said, "But this is different! You wouldn't be joining with that status. You have another identity—Sonder!"
"And don't worry about my hubby. I asked him beforehand, and he said it's fine if you want to join. That's why I'm asking you. So just tell me if you want to or not, you don't have to worry about anything else."
Anastasia stood before him with her hands on her hips. "Besides, the Lancaster Group really needs you right now. I'm actually asking for your help. So, what do you say? Will you accept my request?"
Carter chuckled, a faint shimmer dancing in his quiet eyes.
He quickly glanced back at the man's tall, straight back, an irrepressible smile spreading across his face. When Harrison seemed to sense something and glanced back, Carter quickly turned his head, bit his lip shyly, and left with a slightly lighter step.
"Hubby, you know, I think Carter kind of worships you," Anastasia said with surprise, peeking from the doorframe after watching Carter leave.
Harrison didn't say anything, simply pulling her into his arms and sitting her down beside him. "What did you do at home today?" he asked.
Anastasia immediately began to chatter excitedly.
In reality, her daily schedule wasn't very eventful—trips to the Global Harmony Medical Institute, visits to Bruno, and occasional house calls for patients. There wasn't much to tell.
But Harrison always listened with great patience and focus, as if her day was more important than anything discussed in his meetings.
"Why are you home so early today?" she asked when she was finished.
