Chloe walked into the house and took off her shoes. She was heading upstairs when she saw Morgan and Henry sitting on the sofa. Beth was standing there looking nervous with a suitcase next to her.
“Dad are you going somewhere?” Chloe asked.
Henry looked at her. “We aren’t going anywhere. We’re sending you away. Your grandfather and I talked it over and this is what we decided.”
Chloe froze, “Why are you sending me away? I’m fine in Dracovia, Why do I have to leave?”
“I think you remember what I said,” Morgan said. “I told you to leave Lilian alone. I said anyone who messed with her was out of the Sinclair family. You heard me.”
Chloe stared at them. “So you’re kicking me out just because I went after Lilian?”
“Yes,” Morgan said. “I told you over and over to stay away from her but you didn’t listen. Now you’re leaving. I already found a school for you overseas. Go study. Maybe in a few years you’ll actually grow up.”
Chloe looked at Henry. “Dad are you really making me leave too?”
Henry looked miserable. “Chloe just go. I have nothing left. I’m a failure and I can’t give you a future here. You have to handle things yourself. Going abroad is your best bet. Maybe you’ll actually make something of yourself in a few years.”
Chloe started crying. “Even you don’t want me? How can you do this? Yeah I went after Lilian but I did it for the family. Sinclair Group belonged to us. She had no right to take it. Was I wrong to try and get it back?”
Henry sighed. “You weren’t wrong. I was. I’m the one who was useless. I couldn’t save the company and I couldn’t leave you anything. But this isn’t Lilian’s fault. I’m the one who sent people to steal the formulas from Skyreach. I’m the one who tried to steal their materials. Sinclair Group went under because of what I did. I’m telling you this because you need to let it go. Stop living in the past. The company is gone. Fighting about it doesn’t change anything. Just let it go and go study. I’ll be waiting for you to come back when you’re done.”
Chloe looked at him. He looked old and defeated. He didn’t have any of his old energy left. The Sinclair family was finished.
She realized that no matter how much she hated Lilian she couldn’t change anything.
