Chapter 106: Skyreach Group Strikes Back
Just as the tension in the room thickened, the phone suddenly rang, breaking the silence.
Lilian reached for it, her fingers trembling slightly before she pressed the answer button. A familiar, deep voice resonated through the receiver. “Lilian.”
Immediately, the tight furrow between her brows softened, and a subtle, reassuring smile curved her lips. “Yes?”
“Are you alright?” Sebastian’s concern was evident in his tone.
She could tell from his voice that he had already caught wind of the unfolding situation through the grapevine online. “I’m fine. I’ve got this under control. Please don’t worry about me.”
Though she truly was capable of handling the turmoil on her own, hearing his care gave her a sense of invincibility, as if an entire army stood behind her. With that feeling, fear simply didn’t stand a chance.
Sebastian’s voice lowered, tender yet edged with frustration. “Lilian, when you tackle things like this alone, it makes me feel so powerless.”
Lilian rose from her chair and moved toward the expansive glass window that framed a view of drifting clouds against a pale blue sky. Her voice softened into something almost vulnerable. “You are my greatest strength, Sebastian. Because of you, fear no longer has a hold on me.”
Her past had been a lesson in mistrust, teaching her to build walls around her heart and soul. Yet this man had relentlessly chipped away at those defenses, becoming an inseparable part of her life. He was the steady presence who silently witnessed her growth, never faltering.
Her words stirred a complex mix of emotions within Sebastian. After a brief pause, his voice came back steady and warm. “Lilian… I will always be right behind you.”
The moment hung between them when Karina entered the office, her expression serious.
“How’s everything?” Lilian asked, turning to face her.
Karina’s face was grave. “The regulators have launched an investigation. Someone reported that the funds Skyreach Group used to purchase the land are from an unknown source. They’re conducting a full-scale probe.”
Lilian drummed her fingers against the desk, her eyes hardening with resolve. After a moment of contemplation, she declared, “Immediately suspend all sales of Skyreach Group’s pharmaceutical products. Make a public announcement—an indefinite suspension. Then organize a press conference. We will lay out the entire situation and share the findings from our own internal investigation.”
She paused, then added with quiet determination, “And since Mr. Killian holds us in such high regard, we simply cannot ignore the contributions of such a distinguished individual, can we? We’ll make it clear that Skyreach Group welcomes any and all scrutiny. As for the funding, we stand firmly behind full transparency.”
Karina looked taken aback. “A complete suspension? That could cost us dearly.”
Lilian’s lips curled into a sharp smile. “Sometimes, you have to walk through the fire to find your way out. When this is over, we’ll see who truly suffers more.”
