A dark light flashed across Callen's eyes. "Continue to keep a tight watch on him. That man has always been treacherous and cunning, so we cannot afford to be careless in the slightest. Unless we see his corpse with our own eyes, we must not let our guard down."
He had already personally experienced just how deep that man's calculations ran. Even though the news of his impending death was spreading like wildfire outside, Callen had to remain cautious until he received absolute confirmation. After all, caution is the parent of safety, and one can never be too careful.
The man replied quickly, "Yes, sir. I understand." With that, he turned and left the study.
A moment later, Callen tossed the documents in his hands onto the desk, picked up the telephone beside him, and dialed a number.
"Have you obtained any definitive information on your end?"
An old, frail voice echoed through the receiver. "Not at the moment. All the available information is coming straight from the news reports. That man has not showed his face at the company up to this point, so I suspect his fate is indeed grim."
"What is the current situation at the company?" Callen inquired.
The person on the other end let out a cold laugh. "How else could it be? Several shareholders are already growing incredibly restless, and some have even started selling off their shares. If that man doesn't show up soon, Empire Group is going to fall into absolute chaos."
"Is that so?" Callen's smile was laced with pure mockery. "It seems the foundation of Empire Group isn't as solid as it appeared. It has only been a few days since that man met with his accident, yet things have already deteriorated to this point. If he is truly gone, I expect the day of the company's total collapse isn't far off."
"Then what should our next move be? The forty-eight-hour mark passed several days ago, and that man hasn't appeared since. No one knows whether he is alive or dead. If we make our move right now, I am concerned we might get detected. Furthermore, just in case that man is actually fine, the situation will turn entirely against us."
Just then, a quiet knock sounded on the study door.
Without shifting his posture, the man simply answered in a low, deep voice, "Come in."
The door was pushed open, and Foster walked straight inside. Placing a stack of documents onto the desk, he reported, "These are the directors who have been exceptionally active within the company recently. All their detailed information is compiled right here."
Sebastian swept a cold, piercing glance over the file before returning to his immediate work. Only after he finished processing the document in front of him did he pick up the new file Foster had just brought in.
As his eyes scanned the data inside, his thin lips curved into a chilling, mocking smile. "I never expected Murphy to be running around so energetically at his age. It seems I kept him on too tight a leash back when I was running the company, so now he thinks he can crawl out of the woodwork and play king of the castle."
