Rewrite Her Thrilling Life (Lillian and Sebastian) novel Chapter 142

Chapter 142: Inquiry

When Lilian finally emerged from the house, Lorraine had already finished arranging the table, the plates and cutlery neatly in place. The late afternoon sun cast a warm glow over the scene, adding a soft golden hue to the room. Lorraine hurried over and sank into a chair with an eager smile, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

Leonard watched his young apprentice with a tender, almost paternal fondness. Without saying a word, he began heaping her plate with generous portions of her favorite dishes, carefully selecting each item as if ensuring she’d have the best meal possible.

By the time Sebastian casually strolled out, Lilian was already digging into her food with enthusiasm, savoring every bite. Leonard said nothing as Sebastian took the seat beside Lilian, picking up a fork as if he owned the place, his demeanor calm and confident.

Leonard glanced at Sebastian briefly, then turned back to Lilian with a gentle smile. “You’re still young, Lilian. Your focus should be on your studies. The world outside is filled with dangers you can’t always see—don’t let yourself be deceived, alright? You know how hard I’ve worked to raise you well, don’t you?”

Lilian paused for a moment, then grinned mischievously. “Yes, Master. I’ll obey every command you give.”

Leonard ruffled her hair affectionately. “That’s the spirit. When you’re older, I’ll find you the very best match.”

“Mm-hmm! I promise I’ll listen to you,” she giggled, her eyes darting away from Sebastian, who sat silently beside her.

Sebastian continued eating with an unruffled expression, as if nothing unusual was happening. His gaze seemed to challenge her silently: Keep testing me, and you won’t get away so easily.

“Lilian, where did you find those herbs? They’re incredibly rare,” Leonard asked, curiosity lacing his voice.

Taking a slow sip of soup, Lilian replied, “Deep inside Wyvern Hill. I didn’t realize how far I’d gone until I was well into the forest. I never expected to find so many growing there.”

Leonard added more vegetables to her bowl, his tone growing serious. “You’re not to take such risks again. Nobody truly knows what lies within Wyvern Hill. Especially in this cold weather—if something had happened to you, even I might not have been able to save you.”

Lilian clung playfully to his arm, batting her eyelashes as if begging for mercy. “I know, I know. I won’t make you worry again.” Then, with a small sigh, she picked out the carrots from her dish.

Leonard shook his head with a hint of exasperation and gently pushed the carrots back onto her plate. “Eat them. I may not be able to watch over you when you’re away, but while you’re here, I still have the final say. You’ve been picky since you were little—that’s why you haven’t grown taller.”

“But I’m not a rabbit! Why do I have to eat them?” Lilian protested, her voice tinged with mock indignation.

“No arguments. You’re eating those carrots. End of discussion.” Leonard’s tone was firm, and he even added a few more to her plate.
