Chapter 163: Red’s Provocation

By this point, Lillian had trailed Richard deep into the southern borderlands. Their vehicle had wound its way through thick, tangled jungle before finally arriving at a small village, marked by a weathered wooden archway that proudly bore the name Balewood.

As soon as they reached the settlement, the group stepped out of the car. The air was heavy with the scent of damp earth and foliage, the sounds of distant birds adding a faint melody to the otherwise still atmosphere.

Approaching them was a woman dressed strikingly in red. Her tailored suit hugged her slender frame with precision, accentuating her poised and commanding presence. Her sharp eyes flicked briefly to Lillian, who stood quietly behind Richard, before she inclined her head slightly in a respectful bow. “Sir, everything is prepared. We can proceed inside whenever you’re ready.”

Richard gave a curt nod. “Good. Let’s move in now.”

They ventured onward, plunging into the dense forest. The canopy above filtered the sunlight into scattered patches, casting mottled shadows on the uneven ground. They trekked for nearly two hours, the path growing rougher and more challenging, until finally they arrived at the entrance of a cavern. The surrounding terrain was rugged, dominated by towering trees whose roots tangled across the earth, making navigation without a guide perilous.

Inside the cave, signs of previous excavation were evident. Jagged stones and loose rubble were scattered across the floor, remnants of earlier digging efforts. The rough, uneven walls bore marks where tools had scraped away layers of rock, hinting at the persistence of those who had come before.

At the deepest chamber, Richard reached into his pocket and handed Lillian a stone. “Have a look at this. It was taken from the far end of the cave. Let me know if you detect any trace of ivory within it.”

Lillian took the stone in her hand, turning it over casually. She had already absorbed much during their journey here. With spiritual energy flowing steadily through her veins, seeing beyond the stone’s surface was effortless. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she focused inward.

There was jade present in the mine, but it was of poor quality—nothing truly valuable. What truly caught her attention, however, was the unusually dense spiritual energy saturating the cave itself. That could only mean one thing: somewhere nearby, a vein of exceptionally high-grade ivory was concealed.

Richard caught the thoughtful expression on her face. “Well?” he prompted.

Turning the stone thoughtfully, Lillian replied, “Based on the surface of this sample, ivory should be present in this area. But I can’t determine its quality just yet. You’ll need to dig deeper before the true grade becomes apparent.”
