Chapter 195: Noreen’s Resentment
Lillian offered a polite smile. “I’m sorry, Miss Dune, but since I’m still in school, I’ll have to decline your generous invitation.”
In comparison to her stepmother and stepsister, this Miss Dune seemed far less skilled. She wore a warm and friendly mask, yet the sharp malice flickering in her eyes betrayed the true feelings lurking beneath the surface.
Noreen hadn’t anticipated Lillian would turn her down so persistently. But with Sebastian standing nearby, she forced a tight smile, unwilling to show her frustration.
“That’s alright,” Noreen said smoothly. “There will be other opportunities. But, Miss Lillian, school isn’t on summer break yet, is it? How did you find time to come all the way to Kingston?”
Lillian’s lips curved into a mischievous grin. “Well, I simply missed Mr. Whitmore too much to stay away. I had to come and check on him, make sure no other vixens had tried to steal him away. My Mr. Whitmore is just too outstanding—I need to keep a close watch. Don’t you agree, Miss Dune?”
Noreen’s smile faltered, her composure cracking. This girl was impossible to outmaneuver, constantly leaving her feeling defeated and powerless.
Sensing the growing tension, Evan chuckled softly. “Lillian, you really don’t have to worry. I can assure you—Sebastian never talks to any other woman. Only you. You can be completely at ease.”
Lillian shot a playful glance at Sebastian, raising one eyebrow. “Of course I believe Mr. Whitmore. With such a cute girlfriend like me, how could he ever look elsewhere? Isn’t that right, Mr. Whitmore?”
Sebastian’s reply was calm and certain. “Yes. For this lifetime, I’m already trapped by you, little girl.”
Manny groaned in mock exasperation. “Oh, come on, Sebastian—we haven’t even started eating yet!”
Evan smirked. “You’ll get used to it. Ever since Sebastian got together with little Lillian, I’ve been force-fed their lovey-dovey dog food nonstop. I’m immune by now.” He waved over a waiter and began placing their order, ignoring the lingering tension in the air.
Lillian teased back with a grin. “When you find a girlfriend, I won’t mind if you feed me dog food right back.”
The meal concluded with each person lost in their own swirling thoughts.
