Chapter 221: His Indulgence

Sebastian stepped quietly into the courtyard, where he found Lillian fast asleep. Her eyelids were gently closed, and the soft, shallow rhythm of her breathing made her appear utterly fragile and endearing. Long lashes cast delicate shadows beneath her closed eyes, adding to the serene beauty of the moment.

The sunlight filtered through the trees, bathing her cheeks in a warm, rosy glow. Her hair, dark and flowing like strands of seaweed, caught the light with a subtle, cool shimmer, tumbling over her shoulders in a cascade that resembled a gentle waterfall. The texture looked so silky and fine that Sebastian couldn’t resist the urge to reach out, his fingers lightly brushing the smooth strands as if afraid to disturb her peaceful rest.

It was obvious she was utterly exhausted. Yet, despite the tenderness of the scene, Sebastian knew he couldn’t simply leave her to sleep like this. She had barely touched her porridge that morning, and just a short while ago, the maid had mentioned that Lillian had skipped lunch entirely. There was no way he would allow her to go hungry again.

With a careful, almost playful motion, he pinched her nose gently. Lillian stirred immediately, her breathing faltering for a moment before her eyes fluttered open. She blinked sleepily up at him, her gaze still clouded with drowsiness, and muttered, “Mr. Whitmore, disturbing someone’s nap is truly shameful.”

She made a valiant effort to drift back into sleep, her voice soft and laced with fatigue. Sebastian couldn’t help but chuckle quietly at her stubbornness. But when he realized she was determined to keep dozing, he simply scooped her up into his arms with ease and began carrying her toward the castle. “If you want to sleep, you’ll have to eat something first,” he said firmly.

Realizing resistance was futile, Lillian nestled obediently against his chest, surrendering to his care as he walked her into the dining hall. The room was quietly prepared, the table set with care, and the servants standing silently by with a meal ready and waiting.

Moses, the loyal butler, caught sight of Sebastian carrying the girl inside. A warm smile softened his usually reserved expression. Ever since that night when Sebastian had brought Lillian home with such delicate care, treating her as if she were made of glass, Moses had sensed something profound. Over the past few days, Sebastian’s attentive and unrestrained devotion had become undeniable. It was clear to everyone in the manor that this young woman was destined to be their future mistress. No one dared show her anything less than the utmost respect.

Sebastian was meticulous as he fed her, patiently waiting for her to swallow each bite before offering the next. Knowing that Lillian wasn’t accustomed to Murican cuisine, he had gone out of his way to hire a chef skilled in Dracovian dishes, hoping the familiar flavors would encourage her to eat more.

With her eyes still closed, Lillian ate quietly, spoon after spoon, as Sebastian coaxed her gently. When she had finally eaten enough, he carried her back to her bedroom and allowed her to drift off once more into a peaceful sleep.

Downstairs, the staff watched Sebastian’s retreating figure in stunned silence. Since the day he had brought Lillian into the manor, his indulgence had shattered all previous expectations. It seemed certain now that this young lady was here to stay as the new mistress of the house.
