Chapter 226: Chris Residence

Morning light spilled generously into the room as Lillian slowly stirred awake, realizing with a soft sigh that it was already half-past nine. The sun streamed through the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a warm, golden hue that wrapped the entire space in gentle brightness.

She stretched out languidly, her eyes drifting toward the sunlit view outside. Without quite understanding why, her spirits lifted, buoyed by the rare luxury of a peaceful morning. These small pockets of calm, she thought, were truly the sweetest moments life could offer.

After freshening up, Lillian stepped out of the bedroom, her footsteps light as she made her way downstairs. The household staff, bustling about their morning routines, immediately noticed her presence. Their faces brightened with respectful smiles as they greeted her in unison, “Ms. Sinclair.”

Returning their warmth with a genuine, “Good morning,” she moved toward the dining room, her mood noticeably lighter. As she entered, her eyes caught sight of a familiar figure seated at the table, and she blinked in mild surprise.

“Mr. Whitmore, what are you doing at home today?” she asked, curiosity coloring her tone.

Sebastian lowered his newspaper, his gaze softening as it landed on her. A playful smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. “Having breakfast with my little jealous one,” he teased.

Lillian shot him an exaggerated glare, a spark of amusement in her eyes. “You’re the jealous one. Your whole family is jealous.” Not wanting to give him the satisfaction of a longer exchange, she picked up the bowl of porridge freshly placed before her and took a careful sip.

Sebastian reached over, gently brushing the tip of her nose with a finger, his voice dropping to a tender murmur. “You are my family.”

Their quiet moment was interrupted by Foster, who entered briskly. After offering Lillian a polite nod, he turned his attention to Sebastian. “Sir, all the preparations for tonight’s banquet at the Chris residence are complete.”

Sebastian responded with a soft hum, his fingers absentmindedly threading through Lillian’s hair. “Come with me to the banquet tonight,” he invited.

Lillian swallowed her mouthful of porridge, tilting her head thoughtfully. A sly gleam flickered in her eyes. “Your rival’s banquet, huh? This should be interesting.” She hadn’t forgotten the arrogance that woman had displayed in front of her.

Sebastian chuckled softly, clearly amused. He knew exactly what she was thinking; Lillian was the kind of person who never let a slight go unnoticed. That trait, among many others, was part of why he adored her so deeply.
