Chapter 238: The Ambush, Part 1
Cary swallowed the burning anger rising in his chest, forcing his features into a calm, composed mask before he spoke. “Please forgive us. Everly had a bit too much to drink tonight and said things she shouldn’t have. I hope neither of you took offense at our poor hospitality.”
Lillian’s gaze turned icy as she faced the woman beside her. “Ms. Everly has repeatedly slandered me in front of my fiancé. I believe everyone here can see exactly what your true intentions are.”
She took a steady breath, her voice sharp and unwavering. “But let me be perfectly clear tonight—Sebastian belongs to me, Lillian. This isn’t about background, family status, wealth, or power. He is mine, and mine alone.”
Her posture was rigid, her eyes blazing with fierce determination, and the quiet confidence radiating from her small frame commanded every eye in the room. No one expected such a delicate-looking woman to wield such formidable strength.
Even Everly was visibly shaken, especially when she met Lillian’s dark, piercing stare—a look so cold it sent a shiver down her spine.
Sebastian stood frozen, completely captivated. It hadn’t dawned on him until this moment that in their relationship, he wasn’t the only one who mattered—he was equally vital to her. Her words struck him like an arrow, piercing his heart and leaving him breathless.
A bittersweet ache settled in his chest. With a woman like Lillian standing so resolutely by his side, how could he not love her?
As the banquet drew to a close, Sebastian said goodbye to Cary. The little fox needed rest, and though Cary hesitated, he knew better than to press them to stay longer.
After exchanging a few polite words, Sebastian departed with Lillian.

Later that night, at the Chris residence.
In the dimly lit study, Cary sat behind his desk, his dark eyes locked onto Everly and Allen, who stood uneasily before him.
