Chapter 247: The Provocation
Daylen’s gaze lingered on the girl sitting beside him, once again captivated by the unwavering composure she radiated. No matter the chaos or tension swirling around her, Lillian maintained a serene confidence that never faltered. He couldn’t help but wonder what kind of experiences had forged such a resilient spirit within her.
Suddenly, a wave of applause echoed through the grand hall, drawing everyone’s attention toward the sweeping staircase. Lillian and her friends instinctively turned their heads.
Eda emerged gracefully, clad in a sleek white gown that hugged her figure perfectly. Her long hair was swept up into a sophisticated bun, and atop her head, a diamond tiara sparkled brilliantly under the shimmering lights. Tonight, she embodied the very image of a flawless debutante, dazzling and poised.
Natalie leaned in closer to Lillian, her voice low and teasing. “Honestly, putting looks aside, Eda is stunning. But compared to you or Jill? She’s still leagues behind.”
Lillian smiled softly at her friend’s candid remark and shook her head in quiet amusement.
By that time, Eda had made her way down the staircase, flanked by a distinguished middle-aged man. Lillian recognized him immediately—Mac, Eda’s father. Karina had once handed her a detailed dossier on Solara’s most influential business figures. Mac was a man of great respect, known for his smooth negotiation skills and the kind of charm that masked a fierce, calculating nature—the quintessential smiling tiger.
Mac addressed the assembled guests with a warm, practiced smile. “Today, we celebrate my beloved daughter’s birthday. I am deeply grateful to each of you for joining us this evening. Your presence means more than words can express…”
Beside him, Eda basked in the spotlight, her eyes repeatedly flickering toward Daylen with a possessive affection that was impossible to miss.
Natalie smirked knowingly. “Looks like she’s completely smitten with you.”
Daylen blinked, then chuckled, shaking his head. “Lots of people say they’re head over heels for me. Am I supposed to be accountable for all of them? Besides, Eda’s not my type. She acts like the entire world should revolve around her. Girls like that? It’s better to keep your distance.”
