Chapter 401 Million Corp Anniversary Continued
Triny held her glass of wine, her expression distant as she gazed at the burgundy figure ahead, her eyes utterly devoid of emotion.
Morten caught her look and shook his head in frustration, as though disappointed by her weakness.
Just then, Renee swayed gracefully toward Merrick and said, “Mr. Merrick, it’s been a long time. Do you still remember me?”
Merrick glanced at the woman before him and broke into a knowing smile. “Mrs. Stint–how could I possibly forget? Your reputation is practically legendary.”
Renee’s smile bloomed brilliantly. “Mr. Merrick, you flatter me. Compared to you, I’m nothing at all.”
She then waved Triny over before turning back to Merrick with a laugh. “This is my niece, Triny. She has admired you for a long time; since she finally has the chance to meet you tonight, I thought I’d introduce her.”
Triny walked over slowly, her smile soft as she said, “Mr. Merrick, hello. It’s a pleasure to meet you, and I hope I’m not intruding.”
Merrick gave her a brief glance, nodded faintly, and replied with a touch of detachment, “A pretty young lady.”
At that moment, a voice rang out from the entrance, “Mr. Whitmore has arrived.”
All eyes turned as a striking couple stepped inside. The man was impossibly handsome, his features sharp and defined; dressed in a black suit, with diamond cufflinks at his wrists and a luxury watch gleaming discreetly, he radiated understated opulence. Only the dark thumb ring he wore seemed oddly out of place.
At his side, the girl wore a black cocktail dress dusted with tiny shimmering details, as if starlight had been scattered across the fabric. Silver heels made her appear even more statuesque. And when faces turned to truly see her, the entire room seemed to draw in a collective breath.
Merrick froze. She looked so much like her–no, this girl was even more beautiful.
Eric, too, was shaken. Two years ago, he had investigated her; yet circumstances had forced him to return to Murica before he could learn the truth.
The only news he had received was that the girl had gone missing, and so he had dropped the matter.
Never had he expected to see her again tonight–more breathtaking than before, and even closer in resemblance to the woman in that photograph.
Every gaze pressed down on her like a weight. Her hands shook, and she clenched her jaw to keep her teeth from chattering.
Jane slipped up beside her and whispered with a sly smile, “This Lillian really is gorgeous. Look–every gaze that should have been on you has drifted straight to her. Still, if I were a man, I’d probably be smitten too.”
Sebastian turned his attention to Merrick, smiling as he said, “Mr. Merrick, it’s been a while.”
Merrick snapped back to himself, extended a finger toward him, and chuckled. “You rascal. No wonder I haven’t seen you lately- you ran back to Dracovia.”
Sebastian led Lillian forward, his eyes soft as he glanced at the girl beside him. “Love at first sight. I came back for my fiancée.”
Merrick turned his smile to Lillian. “Ms. Harrington, we meet again.”
