**The Billionaire’s Last Obsession series 488**
**Chapter 488: Trapped Like a Rat**
The moment the number reached Diana’s ears, her world spun, and she felt herself crumbling backward. Time seemed to stretch as Alvin lunged forward, his heart racing with terror. Panic etched across his features, he grasped her shoulders, shaking her gently. “Mom! Please, wake up!” he pleaded, his voice laced with urgency as he pinched her philtrum, desperate for any sign of life.
It felt like an eternity, nearly five agonizing minutes, before Diana’s eyes fluttered open, her voice barely a whisper, fractured and weak. “Son… we need to go. We can’t afford to confront that woman.” Her words hung in the air, heavy with resignation and fear.
With a surge of defiance, Alvin shot Layla a venomous glare, his eyes blazing with fury and frustration. Without another word, he propelled himself and his mother out of the Skyreach Group, their escape fueled by the urgency of the moment.
As they slipped through the doors, Lillian’s voice sliced through the tension, cold and sharp like a knife. “Send my regards to your wife, Sharon. Let her know an old friend will be visiting soon.” The malice in her tone was unmistakable, a warning wrapped in a seemingly polite message.
Back in the office, Layla felt the weight of the world crashing down on her. Tears brimmed in her eyes as she turned to Lillian, her voice trembling like a fragile leaf in the wind. “I’m so sorry… I’ve brought trouble upon us again, haven’t I?” The guilt gnawed at her, a relentless beast.
With a calm demeanor, Lillian walked over to her desk, settling into her chair with an air of authority. A smile danced on her lips, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “It’s nothing to worry about. With adversaries like them, politeness is a luxury we cannot afford. You’ve come this far, Layla; the only way out is to confront them boldly. Only then will you truly liberate yourself. Do you grasp what I’m saying?”
Layla nodded slowly, her resolve hardening. “I understand.”
“By the way, where are Wayne and Ryan? I haven’t seen them around today,” Lillian inquired, her curiosity piqued.
Wiping away the remnants of her emotional turmoil, Layla quickly responded, “Mr. Ryan went to survey a project; Mr. Wayne is at the filming base.”
Lillian nodded in acknowledgment. “Very well. Go on, get back to your work; don’t let this burden weigh you down. They won’t be troubling you anytime soon.” With that, she turned her attention to the files stacked on her desk, flipping through them with practiced ease.
“Yes, I understand. I’ll return to work now,” Layla replied, her voice steadier as she stepped out of the office, the door clicking shut behind her.
Just then, Lillian’s phone buzzed, breaking the silence.
Unno’s voice crackled through the line, urgent and crisp. “Miss, Vivian has just entered that villa estate.”
