**Chapter 630: The Truth from Back Then**
Merrick stood before Lilian, his heart heavy with the weight of unspoken truths. He noticed her silence, the way she seemed to retreat into her thoughts, and he let out a resigned sigh. “I realize that this might be overwhelming for you,” he said, his voice steady but laced with concern. “Take your time to process it. If there’s anything on your mind, please, don’t hesitate to seek me out. I’ll always be here.” With that, he turned and made his way toward the door, the tension in the room palpable.
Suddenly, the stillness was broken by Lilian’s voice, sharp and clear. “So, what you’re saying is that my mother was deliberately made to disappear, and the culprit is likely tied to your Philips family. You acknowledged me as your granddaughter merely to provoke them, to force their hand, especially regarding that ten percent stake.” The pieces of the puzzle that had eluded her suddenly clicked into place, illuminating the dark corners of her past.
Merrick’s face twisted in pain at her words. “I can accept your accusations regarding everything else, but you must believe me when I say that the ten percent stake was given to you out of genuine affection and acknowledgment of our connection.”
Lilian scoffed, a bitter smile crossing her lips. “Is that truly the case? It appears my mother and I share a tragic destiny—betrayed by our own kin, condemned to a life of struggle. Tell me, Merrick, how do you intend to confront the member of your family who betrayed my mother?”
The way she uttered his name—Merrick—cut through him like a blade. He inhaled deeply, gathering his thoughts. “I owe you an explanation, and I owe your mother one as well. I will make this right.”
In a softer tone, Lilian replied, “You don’t owe me anything. Your obligation is to your mother. To me, we are merely strangers bound by blood.”
As Merrick exited Ravenwood Manor, he felt the weight of his decisions pressing down on him. Before stepping out, he turned to Sebastian, his trusted confidant. “I’ve dispatched people to investigate the Murica situation. Ensure Lilian’s safety. Nannan is already gone, and I won’t allow Lilian to suffer any further harm.”
Sebastian nodded, his demeanor serious. “I understand. If you find it too burdensome, I can manage things from my end.”
Merrick’s voice turned icy. “No, that won’t be necessary. I refuse to show any mercy this time. It’s time for the Philips family to face the consequences of their actions.” With that, he climbed into his car and drove away, determination etched on his face.
